A quiet summer night in Sydney was the perfect excuse to get out and catch some tunes at the famous Vanguard in Sydney. The sounds started early with Dr Kong and the Stem Cells hitting the stage just after 8pm. It was obvious early on that the many gathered would be treated to a very special night.

Unfortunately we missed the always phenomenal Steve Smyth, but luckily Melodie Nelson was still playing as we arrived at the Vanguard. Melodie is a phenomenal talent whose debut album Meditations On The Sun is a favourite here at the AU. Playing many tracks of the record, Melodie impressed with a tight set. I highly recommend checking her out.

Grinspoon's frontman, Phil Jamieson took the stage with an entertaining acoustic set at The Vanguard in Newtown last night. Kyleigh Pitcher brings you these photos.

The Vanguard is always a special place to catch a gig. It’s the intimate purpose built venue and restaurant that caters perfectly for acoustic Gigs such as Jeff Martin. It was obvious early on that tonight was going to be a special one and there was certain anticipation in the air. The crowd had gathered early and they enjoyed their meals while listening to Jeff’s Canadian support Colin Moore.

Jeff Martin performs at the intimate Vanguard. This will be one of Jeff's final gigs before starting back on tour with The Tea Party. Pete Rivas was there to capture some of the special moments.

I knew it was going to be a good night for two reasons. One was the two-for-one cocktails I was enjoying on a rooftop bar over looking the City skyline and the other was knowing I’d see Skipping Girl Vinegar play again. It had been almost a year since I last saw them live and since that the group had released their long awaited second album Keep Calm, Carry The Monkey.
