Live Review: Flyying Colours - The Grace Darling Hotel (18.05.13)

Precious little has been said about the band Flyying Colours, but, most likely, that is about to change with the release of their single “Wavy Gravy”. Saturday night at the lovely Grace Darling Hotel, was the official album launch. Band promoters (or perhaps the band members) employed a clever marketing strategy. The first hundred punters through the door received a copy of the aforementioned single, and had the opportunity to see three great bands for the measly sum of ten bucks. Certainly the night was great value.

Live Review: Sui Zhen + Rainbow Chan + Carry Nation - The Grace Darling, Melbourne (19.01.12)

Sitting down cross legged at a gig is really weird, especially in a pub. I know there are those experimental gigs in warehouses where sitting crossed legged down is a pre-requisite, but why sit on beer soaked carpet? Regardless, I like hanging out with people who like to chill, and I can try to chill, at least in my own gangly way. So I go to the bar and pour water for myself in a small little cup and sit down with most of the crowd before my leg falls asleep and nearly kills me via pins and needles.

A few brave souls ventured out on a cold Sunday evening to be warmed up by some sunny pop bands. Michael Christian was there to catch the rays with his camera.

DEJA + Richard Lipp + Yuko Nishiyama - The Grace Darling Hotel, Melbourne (26.05.11)

Melbourne band DEJA released their LP Preview in February, and as they gear up towards dropping the full LP, they organised a LP Preview Showcase at The Grace Darling to give the fans and industry a taste of the new material. After seeing them in Adelaide earlier this year at the Fuse Festival, I was so impressed that I didn’t hesitate to fly to Melbourne to check out the show.
