the AU interview: Former New Order Bassist Peter Hook (Manchester) discusses the band's legacy and his upcoming book

PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT

It’s often an exciting, if not nerve-wracking experience to speak to one of your heroes. Scott Aitken tries to keep his cool as he chats with Joy Division and New Order co-founder Peter Hook about resurrecting songs from the band’s past, Ian Curtis’s favourite reggae song, and his upcoming New Order book.

Live Review: Ball Park Music + Millions + Pluto Jonze - The Astor Theatre, Perth (24.10.14)

There’s a strange pessimism embedded in most music fans when it comes to their favourite bands releasing new material. Will it be as good, will it be the same, has the novelty worn off. I think it’s safe to say that after the past couple of years Ball Park Music have well and truly left this awkward phase and are a musical force to be reckoned with. Bringing insurmountable amounts of energy to their live shows there is not a dull moment as their Trippin’ the Light Fantastic tour arrived in Perth on Friday night.

Live Review: Ben Howard + Nick Mulvey - Astor Theatre, Perth (25.07.14)

Friday night saw Ben Howard finally make it across west for a sold out show at Perth's Astor Theatre, kicking off a run of dates that sees Howard also take to the stage at Splendour in the Grass. Yet this was a show, as Howard revealed, that came ever so close to being cancelled, with an injury to regular drummer Chris Bond leaving Howard and a newly assembled band just 48 hours to rehearse.

Live Review: Riley Pearce + Kat Wilson + Indigo - The Astor Lounge, Perth (28.06.14)

Local singer-songwriter Riley Pearce spent the majority of the first half of this year in America on exchange. Saturday night saw Pearce and his band play their first headlining show since his return to Australia and Perth. Those of you who follow Pearce on Facebook are no doubt already be aware that his time overseas was not spent idly, with visits to SXSW, songs getting written and gigs getting played. Saturday's gig was not only a chance to get the band back together, so to speak, but also to test out these new songs in front of a home crowd and with the band.
