Live Review: Elizabeth Rose + Safia + Fishing - Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane (8.03.14)

Ever since stumbling into a random venue at BigSound a couple of years ago and witnessing the genius that is Elizabeth Rose, I’ve been following her career closely. Yet, strangely enough, this is the first time I’ve seen her out of BigSound context.

Live Review: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard + The Babe Rainbow + Dreamtime - Alahmbra Lounge (01.11.13)

Fast becoming one of Australia’s hardest working bands, Melbourne based seven piece King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizards hit Alahmbra Lounge in Brisbane’s fortitude valley in a haze of intensity and intricacy and pure psych rock.

Live Review: The Love Junkies - Alhambra Lounge (27.06.13)

After releasing their album Maybelene earlier in June, Perth band The Love Junkies are making the rounds on an Australian tour. Going for their own blend of blues, garage rock and something a tad louder but indescribable as a live act, they're a great way to spend a Thursday night.

Live Review: Michelle Xen + MKO + Scraps - Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane (31.05.13)

It’s always fun when three local bands get together to put on a show and when these three acts are incredibly fun electro acts, it makes it rather rad. We have Michelle Xen to thank for this.

Live Review: Bec and Ben + Wolver - Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane (23.05.13)

Indie rock is getting heavier. Disappearing are the high strummed chords and the pop melodies and in their place we’re hearing driving fuzz bass and a noise rock inclination. Is this all signalling a grunge-esque rejection of the general happiness of yesteryear? That might be getting a bit too optimistic, but in the meantime Alhambra gave a great showcase of what we might expect to be hearing in the near future with Bec and Ben and Wolver.

Live Review: The Paper Kites + Patrick James Band + The Phoncurves - Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane (20.7.12)

As I walked around the corner to Alhambra Lounge, I was greeted with a 200m line to get into the venue. This was both a good and a bad thing. Good, as it meant The Paper Kites and support acts would play to a packed out crowd in the small venue, but bad because it was quite chilly.
