SANDRINGHAM HOTEL

Live Review: The Good Ship + Bellyache Ben and the Steamgrass Boys + John Kennedy - Sandringham Hotel (01.12.12)

THE GOOD SHIP

Things looked a little sombre at the Sando to begin with. Normally it’s the rain, but tonight it seemed to be the heat keeping the punters away. I thought I had turned up slightly late, but the lady at the door eased my mind when she told me the opening act had not yet commenced.

Live Review: Tim Barry + Josh Small + Brad Vincent - The Sando (04.08.12)

Here's the thing - as a kid I grew up on US punk scene of the 90s. Now twenty years on most of the guys from those bands have now gone on to perform acoustic folk/country style of music. It may seem a fair stretch to go from punk rock to folk, but in reality, a good song is a good song, no matter what style it is in. A good songwriter will be avoid songwriter, whether it's punk, rock, folk, hip hop or pop. Tonight was about appreciating great songwriters.

It was a big night at the Sandringham Hotel last Thursday, with Dark Shadows serving as the main attraction supported by Hang Dai, Mother Brody, Upside Down Miss Jane and The Walk On By.

Live Review: Drop Tank + Elephant + Anatta - Sandringham Hotel (01.02.12)

Perhaps nestling in a safer genre than other bands on the bill, Anatta moved through an array of styles while delivering their own brand of melodic pop rock. It would be interesting to see how they evolve, however it could be beneficial to incorporate a unique edge to prevent this band becoming a cliché.

Celebrating the release of their album on iTunes, Dropbears rose from the ashes and rocked the house at the Sando Hotel on Friday night. Photos by Kyleigh Pitcher.

The Moffs reunited in all their paisley glory at the Sandringham Hotel, Newtown. They performed their hits in a psychadelic backdrop, transporting the crowd back to the 80's. Fittingly supported by the Frownin' Clouds.
