Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the annual celebration of the music of Led Zeppelin, Whole Lotta Love hit the Palais Theatre in Melbourne, with a usual array of Australia's finest talents. Rebecca Houlden was there to capture all the action.

If an artist’s success was measured solely by whether they headline at St Kilda’s historic and iconic venue the Palais Theatre , then Tegan and Sara must be doing extremely well for themselves. Here to promote their latest release Heartthrob , which is a departure from their indie beginnings and a foray into more mainstream, electronic dance pop, the Palais is packed to the rafters.

One wondered what was in store with all these restrictions, and anyone whose perception of Maynard James Keenan was as an earnest musician was to be pleasantly surprised.

Trending oddball Kirin J Callinan opened the evening with his artistic and peculiar style of warped indie. Droning guitars, screeching vocals, and the between set banter of a creepy uncle, Callinan is talented. really weird, but talented.

The Palais is a majestic theatre harking back to yesteryear, with well worn seating, and a musty smell permeating the room. Shows at the Palais are often devoid of the incessant chatter that continues whilst bands play a pub show. Indeed Mike Noga makes mention of this when he says, 'You’re quiet and you make me nervous', to the silent punters, encouraging some cheers from the crowd and draws a grateful 'Thank you' from Mike.

Band of Horses from North Carolina play the Palais Theatre as part of their Big Day Out sideshows.
