MANNING BAR

Live Review: Metronomy + Oscar and Martin - Manning Bar (05.01.12)

Making their eagerly anticipated return to our shores on the back of their Mercury Prize nominated third album English Riviera, Metronomy played last night to a packed Manning Bar. First up in support were Melbourne alt pop duo Oscar + Martin.

The Misfits + Melody Black + Coffin - Manning Bar (01.12.11)

The Misfits

Tapping into the essence of true old school Oi/thrash punk, Coffin were loud with breakneck speed songs designed for slam dancing and kicking shins with 15 hole Dr Martin boots! The drummer pulled off some manic facial expressions looking psychotic at times. The four piece ripped through their set announcing they are here to 'make the other bands sound good'. What they did was kick it off with a punch in the face.

The New York Dolls brought their thang as part of The Boroughs Culture & Music Festival that pays homage to New York. A performance in Sydney by the “dolls” at the end of their Australian Tour that will not be forgotten. Photos by Kyleigh Pitcher.

Kimya Dawson + Aesop Rock featuring Rob Sonic + DJ Big Wiz - Manning Bar (14.10.11)

Whether you know Kimya Dawson through her clever songs like “I Like Giants” or through the fact that she was all over the original soundtrack to the movie Juno - there is no denying that the woman is one big creative hub that continues to churn out brilliant anti-folk jams, a feat which has gathered quite a large cult following worldwide.

Every Time I Die + The Acacia Strain + The Word Alive - Manning Bar (26.09.11)

The metalcore genre is questionable at the best of times, but the synth wielding kind raises further questions still. Openers The Word Alive are one of current flag bearers, and seemed wise to the fact that they weren't so easily swallowed.
