Tunng Announce Headline Shows

Civil Society is proud to announce the Australian tour of twisted folktronic masters Tunng. The London-based band return to Australia following the release of their highly acclaimed fourth studio album ‘…And Then We Saw Land’ for two exclusive headline shows. They will also be appearing at Playground Weekender, and the Perth International Arts Festival.

Tunng last toured Australia in 2008 to rave reviews – playing three sellout Spiegeltent shows to delighted Sydney Festival goers. Since then, the band has been on both personal and shared adventures: founding member Mike Lindsay venturing to India, and the band’s ten-day voyage of discovery with Malian desert bluesmen Tinariwen.

In the spirit of travel and experimentation ‘…And Then We Saw Land’ is full of adventurous spirit. The first Tunng album to take more than a year to write and produce, it’s packed with big choruses and joyful tunes, very much geared for a live setting. “We wanted to make a record that would be a great live set”, says Mike. “My friend described it as ‘Epic Folk Disco Brass Magnificent’, and I’m not sure you could call any other Tunng record that”.

The uniqueness of the record came as a result of a more collective writing process, where all members actively contributed to each song – culminating in a movement away from their folk-heavy roots, to a more well-rounded melodic, pop-centered sound. “Neither folk nor rock nor electronica, but informed by all” (MOJO).

Renowned for their instantly grabbing live shows, Australian punters can expect something different from Tunng: a colourful and uplifting sound that breaks the boundaries of genre…“I want audiences singing along and becoming… THE MEGA CHORUS!” says Mike. This is the sort of show where punters will leave buzzing, with smiles on their faces. It promises to be nothing less than amazing.

Tunng will perform just four shows in late February including festival appearances at Playground Weekender and The Perth International Arts Festival. Don't miss your chance to se these brilliant musicians live.
