Civil Society are excited to announce that the brilliant John Steel Singers will be warming up the stage for San Francisco pop sensations The Morning Benders. With a JJJ Album of the Weekunder their belt, having just wrapped up a massive national tour with Tame Impala, and about to embark on their own solo tour, The John Steel Singers will be supporting at the The Morning Benders’ only two headline shows in Australia.

Civil Society is proud to announce two exclusive headline shows of Berkley based sunny Cali-pop act The Morning Benders. Don't miss this fresh faced quartet for their only shows outside of their Falls, Southbound and Sunset Sounds appearances.

The Morning Benders began to take shape in 2006, when Chris Chu moved to Berkeley to attend school and started learning to play guitar, releasing the a collection of songs recorder on his laptop, theLoose Change EP, just a year later. The self distributed effort earned Chu a legion of local followers and garnered a lot of online buzz, giving him the encouragement he needed to put together a full band, including his younger brother, guitarist Jonathan Chu.

Talking Through Tin Cans, the band’s first full-length album (released in May 2008 on independent label +1 Records), attracted rave reviews across the board. It was named iTunes Top Independent Album of the Year and it reached #8 on Billboard’s Heatseeker Chart, and found the band touring with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Grizzly Bear, Girls, Ra Ra Riot, and The Kooks.

The Morning Benders’ new album, Big Echo (Rough Trade Records) was recorded at The Hanger in Sacramento with Chu self-producing. These sessions were then handed over to Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear (Dirty Projectors, Department of Eagles), who mixed the album at his Terrible Studio in Brooklyn. Critical acclaim has followed, including Pitchfork Best New Music status – a golden ticket in today’s cut-throat indie market.

“The title Big Echo sums up what we’re doing sonically and textually,” singer, lyricist, song-writer, Christopher Chu, reveals. “The idea was to take sounds from all different eras and all different kinds of music, throw them together, and see how they sound bouncing off each other. Throw it all into an echo chamber.”

In support of the release of Big Echo, Civil Society is proud to bring The Morning Benders’ golden harmonies to Australia for the first time. Make sure you don’t miss out on your chance to see these endearing upstarts in 2 special headline shows on their first visit to Australia.
