The Jim Jones Revue announce Big Day Out sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne

BDO SIDESHOW

Call the fire brigade, cos THE JIM JONES REVUE will be burning down houses all across the nation this summer. THE JIM JONES REVUE manifesto is simple, and ferocious: “If you’re going to get on stage,” says guitarist Rupert Orton, “deliver.”
And that they do, riffing on Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis for a rock’n’roll sound that could have come direct from the 1950s, if it wasn’t fused with the so dang wild, loud and loose vibes of The Cramps and The Birthday Party. The Londoners may have only dropped their debut in 2008, but don’t let that fool you – these five punk rock bluesmen have been around. Singer Jim Jones led Thee Hypnotics in the ’80s-’90s, while Orton has as a tour promoter been a long-time champion of punk-rock blues in Britain.
They’re joined by pianist Elliot Mortimer (“Elliot’s a time bomb,” Orton told The Guardian. “He has the boogie-woogie feel with that punk rock attack”), and the rock-hard rhythm section of bassist Gavin Jay and drummer Nick Jones. This is a band that turns every shack it plays into “a mad asylum of rock’n’roll psychosis”, says Mojo, with “a relentless meld of flame-grilled rock’n’soul and punk-R&B.”
“What makes THE JIM JONES REVUE such an exciting live prospect is their heady mix of quality songs and unpredictability. Their mining of the pre-1960 rock’n’roll sound serves them well. You feel that you’ve lived with these songs for a long time… It just makes you stand up and listen before knocking you off your feet.” (Mojo, February 2010).
Hot on the heels of their blistering second album, Burning Down Your House, THE JIM JONES REVUE are set to fire up Down Under for the very first time.
These are the ONLY Australian side shows for THE JIM JONES REVUE outside of the Big Day Out dates. Tickets go on sale for both dates at 9.00am local time on Monday, 22 November, 2010.
