“To some people, a ‘smoky, drunken stumble through a broken-heart junkyard’ might not sound like a good time,” says the Decatur Herald & Review. “But don’t tell that to the Fabulous Ginn Sisters … The sisters describe their new album … as just that.”

After joining forces with independent Canadian singer-songwriter Fred Eaglesmith, who had put them in his backup band to tour (250 shows, including a performance on “Late Night with David Letterman”) and then offered to produce the duo’s next album, the Ginns recorded YOU CAN’T TAKE A BAD GIRL HOME without a break, literally working until it was complete.

Tiffani and Brit Ginn, who now live in Austin, let loose in the studio, taking liberty with lyrics, allowing in a darker expression of emotions, experimenting with Eaglesmith’s vintage recording gear and pooh-poohing imperfections. The result: a decidedly different album, the style described as “lipstick noir” by one music writer, touching on lust, regret, broken dreams and lost hope — but with the sparkling harmonies everyone knows.
