Australia’s newest surf line-up THE BREAK features Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Martin Rotsey of Midnight Oil and Brian Ritchie of US band Violent Femmes. Their first album ‘Church of the Open Sky’ (Bombora/MGM) has garnered rave reviews and a recent appearance on ABC’s Spicks and Specks ensured that audiences were left in no doubt that THE BREAK’s take on surf is just about the most fun you will have without actually getting on a board.

THE BREAK brings a sheer raw vitality and phenomenal force to the surf rock genre. Their powerhouse modern retro sound with thunderous rhythms, rolling toms and reverb soaked guitars augmented by cheesy keyboards, theramin and even some chant like vocal effects explores the psychedelic limits of the genre. However, it is the sheer raw vitality of THE BREAK’s live performance and the dynamic interplay between these four seasoned musicians that has delighted audiences at festivals and gigs all along the East Coast and the band are psyched to be able to bring their performance to WA at last.
A double serve of surf is on the menu with local favourites, Perth based Day of The Dead. A three-piece instrumental Spy guitar outfit, the band combines old school surf guitar with a dirty punk rock tinge to create sounds that would sit comfortably on any Tarantino sound track.
