Sola Rosa set to cross the Tasman in December

SOLROSTOURFLYER

Sola Rosa’s Andrew Spraggon has been tantalising listeners with otherworldly aural experiences for some years now, honing his craft and taking Sola Rosa from a one man project to fully-fledged live powerhouse along the way. He’s kept good company too, counting members of Dimmer, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Goldenhorse, and Pluto amongst the ranks over the years, not to mention pilfering members of Che Fu, King Kapisi and Anika Moa’s bands and tapping the talents of some internationally renowned vocalists. Add a succession of highly regarded releases on labels that include household names Ministry of Sound, Guidance, Different Drummer, Stereo Deluxe, and Satellite K, and you can see why so many Kiwi ears are keen to hear what Sola Rosa will pull out next.

With an explosive new live show, the Get It Together tour is best differentiated from its predecessors by a more beat-driven, direct, dance-oriented sound. It’s a funkier affair that references artists like Quantic, the soul of Alice Russell/Sharon Jones etc, the reggae stylings of Trinity Roots/Fat Freddy’s Drop, and a touch of Tex-Mex  and dubstep for spice. A roll-call of guest vocalists, with cuts from Spikey Tee (best known for his work with Jah Wobble, Mark Rae, Mr Scruff , Morcheeba & Bomb The Bass); German globetrotter, poet/singer Bajka; UK MC Serocee; and emerging Wellingtonian songstress Iva Lamkum.

Although a new release this side of the Tasman, this album has been out for some time in New Zealand and has already achieved ‘GOLD’ status, with sales well in excess of 8000 in NZ. It spent Over 16 weeks in their TOP 30, and reached #1 on NZ ITUNES. Quite a respectable result!
