Regular John New Line-Up and Big Day Out

In 2009, Regular John exploded on to the Australian music scene with the release of their debut album ‘The Peaceful Atom Is A Bomb’. Having already created a ground swell with fans on the Sydney circuit, it wasn’t long before the band caught the attention of the nation’s industry heavy weights. The album was triple J’s Feature Album on release, was listed in Rolling Stone’s Top 50 Albums of 2009, helped the band to the title of Rolling Stone’s Best Rock Act of 2009, and also saw producer Tim Powels nominated for an ARIA for Best Producer for his work on the album.

In early 2010, a series of serendipitous circumstances brought Regular John’s Ryan A. (guitar/vocals), Caleb Goman (bass/vocals) and Ryan McDonald (drums) into contact with guitarist Miles Devine. At the time, Devine was playing in Sydney three-piece, Spangled Mistress. His skilful playing and psychedelic tendencies soon brought Miles to the attention of Regular John’s three existing members, and it wasn’t long before he was invited to jam with the band. So instantaneous was the musical connection between the four that one would be forgiven for thinking there were greater powers at play here. The ‘Devine’ intervention resulted in a musical powerhouse that could not be ignored, and shortly after Miles officially joined the band.

With the line-up now solidified and the band stronger and more focused than ever, Regular John has its sights firmly set on ravaging 2011. In January, the band will take the stage at the 2011 Big Day Out in Sydney with new material from the upcoming album, after which they will enter lock-down mode as preparations for recording begin. The band is reluctant to reveal much about their new material, preferring to let the imaginations of inquiring minds run where they will.

So for those who are eager to find out what Regular John will do next, we suggest keep your eyes on the future. It’s there that you’ll see the band, making tomorrow sounds….
