Public Enemy announce second show in Sydney performing "Fear of a Black Planet"

PUB ENEMY

Following the announcement that their one-off show at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne sold out in one day, enigmatic hip-hop luminaries, Chuck D, Flavor Flav, DJ Lord and The S1W's – aka Public Enemy – announce a second Australian show this summer, performing their ground-breaking album FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET at the Metro Theatre in Sydney.

Public Enemy

has long been known to push any boundaries that it doesn’t blatantly ignore, but it is the legacy of their 1990 album

FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET

that is arguably their most influential.

Released through

Def Jam Records

 and produced by the legendary

The Bomb Squad

FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET

"was as much a musical assault on America's racism as it was a call to blacks to effectively react to it" (author – Marcus Reeves).

 Selling

one million copies in its first week of release

in the USA alone, the album has since been widely recognized as one of the most important in musical, and indeed social political history. In 2003 it was ranked number

300 on Rolling Stone magazine's

list of the

500 greatest albums of all time

and in 2004 was chosen by the

Library of Congress in the US to be added to the National Recording Registry.

Live, Public Enemy is forceful and uncompromising.  From Flavor’s trademark antics and ‘hype’ ability, to D’s de-programming oratory; from the beats, to the sonic bass, and the sheer epic intensity of over twenty years of musical verve, Public Enemy is one of the few acts whose live show is still as relevant - and dare we say as cool - today as it has ever been.

Supporting Public Enemy will be Australian emcee and front man for The Herd and Astronomy Class, Ozi Batla. Far from one-dimensional, Batla’s vocal range is evident in live shows and on record. He is comfortable working in a variety of styles, from straight hip hop in his work with Chasm, melodic with The Herd, on a reggae tip with Astronomy Class, or, occasionally still, in a drum n bass style. He is renowned for his often politically charged lyrics, and has supported the community through conducting hip hop workshops for disadvantaged youths in aboriginal communities and the inner city for many years.

This is the only side show of the tour that you can still get tickets to, so don’t miss your last chance to catch Public Enemy live in Australia this summer.

This hype must be seen to be believed.
