Joe Bonamassa announces new tour and album

joe bonamassa

He’s been lauded as one of the world’s greatest guitarists and he is fast evolving into a full-blown truly charismatic and mesmerising blues-rock star, as well as a singer-songwriter of depth and emotional resonance. He is 33 year old New Yorker Joe Bonamassa, and he’s heading back to Australia for his second visit in May 2011.

"Just saw Joe Bonamassa on Jools Holland again. He's definitely my new favorite guitarist."
- SLASH, via twitter Aug 2010

Born to parents who ran a guitar shop, Joe Bonamassa is a 4th generation musician who has played guitar almost since his hands could grasp one.  At the age of 10, he caught the ear of BB King, who declared “This kid's potential is unbelievable. He hasn't even begun to scratch the surface. He's one of a kind.”  By age 12, Bonamassa was opening shows for King, and went on to tour with such luminaries as Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker and Gregg Allman.

King was correct; Bonamassa hadn’t yet even scratched the surface.  21 years later, Joe Bonamassa is selling out shows at venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall (where he was joined for an impromptu song by Eric Clapton), recording with BB King (on the recent Black Rock album), taking home Breakthrough Artist of The Year and Best Blues Guitarist awards, regularly topping Billboard charts and earning ever-more critical acclaim with each new release and seemingly every live show.

A prolific performer and collaborator, Bonamassa has released 8 studio solo albums to date, and this year as a member of new “supergroup” Black Country Communion, launched their self titled album in September.

Black Country Communion’s rock lineage is undeniable; Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Billy Idol, Alice Cooper) alongside Joe Bonamassa. Named after the industrial area in Britain where both Hughes and Bonham were born and raised, Black Country Communion began rehearsing and recording tracks written by both Bonamassa and Hughes at Shangri-La Studios in early 2010.

But Bonamassa hasn’t stopped there, with a 9th solo studio album currently being recorded and scheduled for release in March 2011, and an Australian tour just announced for May 2011.
