As if we weren't excited enough about the impending touchdown of Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer and Hudson Mohawke at The Tivoli on January 2, the absolute icing on the cake has just been confirmed.
Flying Lotus has announced he will be joined on stage for his Australian dates by two members of his live band which to date has only played a handful of gigs for very lucky audiences in places like Los Angeles and London.
Stephen 'Thundercat' Bruner plays bass on almost half the tracks on Lotus' Cosmogramma as well as providing vocals on lead single "MmmHmm" (Check his appearance in the video for the song at http://vimeo.com/12967070) Thundercat's pedigree includes bass duties for Suicidal Tendencies since 2002 and for spaced-out hip hop and soul artists such as Erykah Badu, Bilal and Sa-Ra Creative Partners.
His brother Ronald Bruner Jr, is just as diverse and has done time on the drums in high profile jazz outfits with the likes of Miles sideman Kenny Garrett. Influenced by his father, a world class drummer who performed and recorded with the Gladys Knight, The Temptations and Diana Ross, Ronald Jr brings that pedigree and a youthful enthusiasm to the kit on stage with Flying Lotus.
This live instrumentation will add a whole new element to Lotus' already amazing live audiovisual show.
