Byron Bay prepare to get psyched! Two of the UK’s finest indie bands are soon to sommersault into town for two very special gigs. Oxford’s FOALS return to Australia in February as part of the Laneway Festival and have just declared they will headline at The Great Northern Hotel on Wednesday, February 2nd as an addition to their previously announced Sydney and Melbourne shows.
To back that up, Irish trio TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB also take to The Great Northern stage the following night Thursday, February 3rd to cap off their Australian tour. This raucous bunch of ragers have already sold out their 18+ Prince Bandroom show in Melbourne on Wednesday, February 9th while their Under 18 dancefest on Tuesday, February 8th is also gearing up to please the screaming party kids. TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB are also part of the Laneway lineup across the country and play their own ALL AGES headline at the Enmore Theatre on Monday, February 7th.
In just over a year, TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB have pounced quickly from small sweaty club venues to sold out shows across the world including New York and LA. Their sold out gigs here in July were testament to their bursting popularity and they now play their biggest shows this side of the Pacific.
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB, have also just put together a unique Tour Edition CD version of their album for their second trip Down Under. The new edition of “Tourist History” includes a whole second disc of remixes by ‘Whatever Whatever’, ‘French Horn Rebellion’, ‘Is Tropical’, ‘Cassian’, ‘Ted&Francis’, ‘The Twelves’ and more PLUS a link to a documentary on the making of the album. It’s available on January 7th, 2011.
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB welcome Sydney art rockers PARADES to join in on the party. After releasing the ethereal debut album “Foreign Tapes” PARADES were hailed as a breath of fresh air. The four piece features drummer extraordinaire Jonathon Boulet alongside Tim Jenkins, Michael Scarpin and Daniel Cunningham for their dynamic live shows throwing PARADES the moniker of band to see or die. With influences ranging from Sigur Ros, Eno and even Fugazi, PARADES are not to be missed!
Meanwhile FOALS are joined by Brisbane indie rockers LAST DINOSAURS for their Australian shows taking in an ALL AGES show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Wednesday, February 9th and Melbourne’s Palace Theatre on Thursday, February 10th in addition to the just announced Byron Bay date.
FOALS return to Australia after their 2010 Splendour In The Grass performance and sold out headline shows where fans were begging for more. The “mathletes” known for their perfectionist tendencies and super-tight live shows are a band that needs to be seen on stage to fully appreciate the intricacies of their incredible albums “Antidotes” and “Total Life Forever”. Known for their exuberant audience participation, FOALS frontman Yannis Philippakis is known to throw in the “stage dive” to ignite the mayhem . Recently he made the packed out Glastonbury crowd go mental, bellowing every word and clapping along as he scaled the dizzy heights and leaped to the waiting hands of the audience below.
“It was during penultimate song 'Electric Bloom' that he made his crowd foray, climbing the stage rigging before dropping down to dive into the front row. He returned to the stage to cheers before returning, shirtless, for one more leap into the crowd,” reported NME.com.
