Sydney group Betty Airs will launch its debut 7” in Melbourne next weekend. Catch the band at The Grace Darling next Friday 3 December with Electric Smile Band and Darren Sylvester, and also at the East Brunswick Club next Saturday 4 December with The Toot Toot Toots and Mikelangelo and The Tin Star.
Betty Airs is the new musical project from Darren Cross (Gerling, The E.L.F), Christan Campano (Run!Hide!) and Michael Zagoridis (Run!Hide!). Born in a dilapidated shed in Glebe over the summer of 2010, Betty Airs take influence from 50s rock’n’roll, grunge and The Ronettes.
Only 150 copies of the 7” have been made, and they will be available to purchase from shows or via Brave Men Run Records. Featuring single 'Reverse Now' and B-side ‘Jennifer’s Enemy’, the 7”was recorded using a reel-to-reel tape machine left to Darren by his ex-BBC sound engineer grandfather.
‘Reverse Now’ is a classic nostalgic tale of a lost summer romance; like a 50s jukebox diner favourite re-imagined through the grungy prism of 90s slackerdom. What more could you want heading into summer? Handclaps? It's got those too.
