The queen of punk cabaret Amanda Palmer, returns to Sydney Opera House this January. Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under: An Australia Day Spectacular will be a deliciously dark evening of songs celebrating our weird and wonderful national day.
Palmer will be joined the Concert Hall stage by a motley crew of singers, storytellers and degenerates, including Palmer’s partner and writer of ‘The Sandman’ fame Neil Gaiman, sequined post-post-modern diva Meow Meow, Balkan lotharios Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen and more.
Amanda Palmer says, “I can't wait to get back...I can smell the vegemite from here already. After my magical show at the Opera House last year, it feels like a fitting homecoming to celebrate my new Oz-themed record, Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, this time in the Concert Hall with my better half in tow."
A fearless singer, songwriter, pianist and provocateur, Palmer first made a name for herself as a member of “Brechtian punk cabaret” duo, The Dresden Dolls. As a solo artist, Palmer has put out 2 albums and collaborated with various other artists. In 2008, Palmer signed to Roadrunner and released Who Killed Amanda Palmer which was produced by Ben Folds and released with a companion photography storybook with words by writer (and Palmer’s fiancé) Neil Gaiman.
Her 2010 release, Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele was recorded in Adelaide, Australia during her last tour. Other creative projects include performing as one half of the fictional theatrical music duo, Evelyn Evelyn with accordion player, Jason Webley and conceiving and writing the theatrical work, The Onion Cellar" with the American Repertory Theater and performing as front-woman at Symphony Hall with the legendary Boston Pops.
Palmer has won numerous Boston Music Awards (including Best Female Vocalist) and has been named "the most stylish woman in Boston" by the Boston Globe. Palmer also tends a widely-read blog and twitter-feed and has been dubbed "The Social Media Queen of Rock N Roll" by The Huffington Post.
