Some people may say it's too early to make guesses for concert of the year. To hell with them. Roger Waters is THE show to see in 2012.

With the festival circuit getting increasingly competitive, reports of poor sound engineering and set delays could never be more damaging, however with an incredibly soggy lead up to the Brisbane leg of Laneway Festival, these problems were disappointing but not surprising. The festival organisers did well to ensure that all stages would be undercover, but unfortunately our dry vintage threads came at the cost of sound quality and atmosphere as we were herded into the RNA horse sheds.

It’s always an exciting night when an EP is released, and I am always privileged to be apart of it. Especially when the band is one that has seemingly come out from outer space. The band: Astrid and the Asteroids. The Venue: The Zoo, Brisbane, Australia, Southern Hemisphere, Planet Earth. The mission: Bring the house down.

There was a great deal of scrutiny in the lead up to the 20th anniversary of the Big Day Out with regards to the festivals relevance. Poor ticket sales and the announcement of the last ever Auckland leg, sans headliner Kanye West, did nothing to help the ailing publicity.

We take a look into all the happenings in the V Energy Green Room at the Gold Coast Big Day Out.

Kicking the night off in style, Last Dinosaurs seem slightly stunned by the packed out Tivoli and overwhelming reception of early tunes 'Hawaii' and 'Saturn'. It shouldn't be a surprise; with their debut LP In A Million Years being released in the very near future, the well-deserved hype machine for the local lads is kicking into overdrive. March 2nd is when the album drops, and you should mark it in your calendar right now.

The four bands tonight have two things in common. Lots of brass and lots of hair. For their EP launch, LeSuits brought together a line up of stellar bands for a show that was more than a little weirdly, awesomely crazy.

It’s always a sad day when a band decides it’s time to call it quits, and for the band Montpelier, it’s quite sad indeed. Although they are not the most well known group in Brisbane, they do have a loyal little band of followers, and I won’t lie, I am one of them. I’ve been with them for most of their two and a half year stint, going to the majority of their Brisbane gigs.

The 90s are long gone, but Venga-Spirit is alive and well on the Gold Coast. Nostalgic punters decked out in fluro and sequins flocked to the Cooly Hotel to welcome the Vengabus to town. Erin Smith brings you these photos.

Montpelier said farewell with a final show at The Zoo before going on 'indefinite hiatus'. Charlie Mayfair came along to help say goodbye.

Combichrist return to Brisbane for their Making Monsters tour along with A+D+A+M LAB4, Angelspit (DJ Set) & Darkc3ll at the Hi-Fi, Brisbane 14/01/12

It was a night of smooth grooves and rocking beats at the Zoo with Bonjah's pre-BDO tour. The crowd was dancing from the get-go as The Deckchairs warmed things up, Chocolate Strings brought the funk and Bonjah brought the house down. Erin Smith brings you these photos.
