Eating with the AU: Luxe - Newtown (Sydney)

Luxe has been standing strong on Malborough Road for years now. It's an attractive venue to look at, like a cosy cottage getaway when compared to the often overwhelmingly buzzed King Street. During breakfast and lunch the venue is almost always packed with the more relaxed Newtown locals looking for some good coffee and some even better pastries. Luxe are at an advantage based on what providers they choose to work with, obviously discerning when it comes to produce; as such you'll find artisanal ingredients from the likes of Feather and Bone and Pepe Saya which has things looking up for the restaurant's new dinner offerings.

Arts Review: Neil deGrasse Tyson - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (22.08.15)

Full disclosure: I didn't have much knowledge of Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson prior to his Australian tour. Aside from his hosting of TV series Cosmos, and his face being literally everywhere leading up to the tour, I knew a little of his work as an astrophysicist but even less about his status as a living astronomer God.

Live Review: Hiatus Kaiyote - The Metro Theatre, Sydney (20.08.15)

With the release of their debut Tawk Tomahawk in 2013, Hiatus Kaiyote emerged fully formed from the Melbourne suburbs, playing the kind of kaleidoscopic soul jazz that was so far beyond anything else in the scene that they transcended it straight away - all the way into the Grammy Awards. The track "Nakamurra", featuring Q-Tip, earned them the honour of being the first Australian band ever nominated for an R &B Grammy, bringing with it plenty of highbrow international acclaim long before they became recognisable to most at home.

Eating with the AU: Niji Restaurant & Bar - Double Bay (Sydney)

Double Bay's Niji Restaurant & Bar have launched a new menu in preparation for spring, maintaining the dedication to high quality contemporary Japanese dining which has seen them become one of the most popular restaurants in the area's Bay Street strip. Going for a more mature look and feel than the Kingsford venue of the same name, Niji Double Bay has stood strong ever since it opened early last year with stylish dark wood paneling and barrel-vault wood celing, a sushi bar towards the back, and a small cocktail bar towards the front.

Eating with the AU: Lotus Dining at The Galeries - CBD (Sydney)

After years of being one of the most celebrated dumpling-centric restaurants in Sydney, Lotus Dining have expanded to a second, much bigger venue in the middle of the city, taking up a big chunk of real estate at the ever-growing The Galeries. Driving a new evolution for the popular dining and retail precinct, Lotus Dining have taken one giant step up from their intimate 48-seater Walsh Bay venue with an enourmous 270-seater restaurant that is just as much about DS17's sleek design as it is about the high quality food and drink.

Photo Gallery: Good Riddance + Versus The World + Nerdlinger + The Great Awake - Manning Bar, Sydney (08.08.15)

Sydney's Manning Bar got a sick dose of punk on Saturday night, when the much loved US crew Good Riddance came through! It's been a while since crowds have seen them in full flight and this show was one for the books, supported by Versus the World, Nerdlinger and The Great Awake. Photos by Gwendolyn Lee.

Hello Asia! Live Review: SMASH x I Love Anisong – Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, Sydney (08.08.15)

More than several hundred anime devotees stayed on from the all-day SMASH! 2015 Convention to attend the first ever SMASH x I Love Anisong concert down under. With a line up of GARNiDELiA, kz (livetune), DJ Hello Kitty and yanaginagi it’s no wonder why! Everybody was armed with staff-provided glowsticks and ready for some good old-fashioned anime jamming. Doors opened up just before 7pm and the nearly three hour concert was a perfect way to cap off what had already been a spectacular day.
