The Snowdroppers + Sativa Sun - Beresford Hotel, Sydney (15.07.11)

THE SNOWDROPPERS

Brisbane expats Sativa Sun have made Sydney their new home, and Sydney is all the richer for it. Their mug is brimming with psychedelic blues rock with a dollop of Cream, and it is no wonder they were chosen as opener for The Snowdroppers. Sativa Sun are somewhat heavier, but the groove remains intact. A measured up and down feel that would be perfect mosh pit fodder. At the same time they project a tranquil feel that makes the songs conducive to rock and roll relaxation.

SATIVA SUN

Sativa Sun will be playing the Annandale Hotel July 21st. At $8 entry, it’s a steal to see such a fine trio. Check out the link below for more details.

THE SNOWDROPPERS

The Snowdroppers then took to the course after a short break to deliver a series of hole-in-ones. Lead singer Wishbone has a commanding stage presence; with his simple sartorial elegance that evokes a 1920s aesthetic, and an authentic blues rock delivery. Occasionally throwing in the wail of a harmonica, and sometimes a banjo to colour the sound, The Snowdroppers infuse the traditional with the contemporary. Bass player London locks in tight with Cougar Jones as guitarist Pauly K adds his own two cents, and then some, with animated riffs and licks. After seeing two electronic acts at the Beresford last week, and being impressed with the sound quality then, it was good to see that the set up is just as favourable to the hard blues of the evening.

LONDON - THE SNOWDROPPERS

The Snowdroppers seem to attract an A-list audience, with Australian rock legend Dave Faulkner from Hoodo Gurus, and Radio/Television personality Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald attending, amongst others.

WISHBONE - THE SNOWDROPPERS

Although it seems an obvious choice, the highlight of the night was, “Do The Stomp”, the lyrics of which seem to affirm The Snowdroppers are working hard to bring back traditional blues with a modern twist; “I been working hard/Working all night”. They most certainly did. It’s an awesome track, check it out below.
