Made In Japan - Goodgod Small Club (10.11.2011)

Made in Japan made an appearance at Goodgod Small Club in celebration of the impending release of their EP. I unfortunately missed out on seeing the opening acts but made it in just in time to see the main show.

Their understated but brilliant performance played perfectly in the small and cosy venue. The set bounced between the two extremes as slow melodies with echoing guitar notes broke into pounding drums and heaviness. While methodical of the band, it worked really well and broke up the pace of their songs nicely.

What worked the best for the band however was their ability to create crowd participation (possibly because they knew a number of members in the crowd). The audience started off with subtle moves but eventually branched out into fully formed dance actions spurred on by one another and the band. When things were coming to an end, the crowd clapped along for the final song, obviously sad to see the boys go.

Made in Japan are a band that deserve to be seen. Not only for their music but for their humble and kind attitude. This was demonstrated when the lead singer personally came out to the door and put me on the list to get in when I wasn’t on it, thankful that someone was there to get the word out for them. By the looks of it, they won’t need me reviewing them for long.
