This was the night that Sydney reggae fanatics had been waiting for. This much was evident on the night, given the mammoth-like queue outside the Enmore Theatre.
It wasn't just a gig, but the fact that one of New Zealand’s most prominent reggae bands Katchafire were touring On The Road Again on Aussie soil, more specifically, in Sydney! These guys ensured that the audience were left in a euphoric state throughout an amazing set of original reggae jams.
Entrancing from the start of an epic reggae night, was Sydney-based New Zealand reggae band This Version. They were such an appropriate and perfect choice as the only support band for the night, and they managed to entertain the crowd successfully.
The band consists of multi instrumentalists with each projecting glorious harmonies which sparked up the crowd prior to the headline act Katchafire.
With a diverse and original blend of positive soul/roots/reggae and a hint of rock grooves pulsating through the rhythm one forsaw that we were in for a massive jam session.
Not too long after, headline band Katchafire took the stage and started to play some of their successful original songs. As I looked around the theatre I noticed torsos swaying in liberation and multiple smiles shining throughout the packed venue as Katchafire played a string of very familiar tunes.
Moreover, the music seemed to project positive vibes where the audience reciprocated, spreading them amongst each other. There was nothing but positive energy and love in ‘tha house’!
Towards the end of the show Katchafire went backstage briefly (and deliberately) to hype up the crowd further as the audience begged for more. As anticipated, the band returned to the stage to play a few more songs which definitely topped off the night.
Should Katchafire return to Aussie shores again, one would certainly go out of their way to be there again. Moreover, it would definitely have to be the best show one has ever attended this year.
