Returning to our shores fresh from the US, with an arsenal of new skills and songs Sydney indie pop sensation Danimals opened the night to a fairly packed venue. Tonight they played as a five-piece with two drummers (which I absolutely loved) and executed an amazing set as well as showcasing their newest song "Fox", which was well received. There is no doubt that they're talented musicians, however it is their stage presence where they need work; it felt more like they were rehearsing than actually playing to the audience.

From the opening chords of their first song, Dirty Projectors had the entire venue hypnotised. The unison of melodies created by Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian and Haley Dekle were beyond doubt absolutely extraordinary, as their voices are vital in the band’s distinctive sound.

It is also the band’s collective as well as unique skills that make this band impressive. With Dave Longstreth’s complex and quirky pop rhythms that truly mindfucked me (in a good way) along with Brian Mcomber’s ability behind the drums and Nat Baldwins funky bass lines, they have the ability to etch beautiful songs into your head. Such can be said in "No Intention" and "Temecula Sunrise" which fans moved and swayed along to the bands incredible vocal and instrumental melodies.

It was Deradoorian’s solo accompanied by "Longreth for Two Doves" that was the highlight of the night; her soaring voice had the crowd mesmerised in total silence before they broke out into a deafening roar of applause.

Their set list was generally comprised of songs from their latest album "Bitte Orca", nevertheless they managed to throw in some Black Flag classics from "Gimme Gimme Gimme" and "Spray Paint" (The Walls), showcasing the band’s ability.

Overall it was a dazzling and magical night, with the band’s warmth and energy putting on an unforgettable show.
