Die! Die! Die! + Chicks Who Love Guns - Oxford Art Factory (08.10.10)

live- diediedie

My apologies for missing the first support act, I arrived just as they were finishing their set but from what I was told it was reminiscent of a young Jack Ladder; which would have been cool to see.

Now that The Scare are no more, it’s up to Sydney post punk Chicks Who Love Guns to fill the void. But are they capable? The answer is yes. Having seeing them prior just a week before at a secret warehouse party I was very impressed by their raw energy and stage presence. They remind me of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds but more fashion orientated. However tonight’s set lacked everything which makes them great, from passion to liveliness. It was like watching them rehearse more than anything else. The set was just...boring.

Tonight was perhaps the first time I’ve seen the Oxford Art Factory so empty. Compared to the last time Die! Die! Die! played here there were hardly any people tonight, however that didn’t stop NZ punk trio Die! Die! Die! from putting on one of the best shows I’ve seen them play.

Their set was comprised mostly of new songs from their latest LP Form. Hearing the songs live for the first time was a phenomenal experience; from "Wasted Lands" which is one of the catchiest songs the band has written. With a pop riff, solid bass line and thunderous drumming the band have perfected their sound.

What made the night even more incredible was the lighting. The smoke along with the lights almost made the band look angelic yet chaotic at the same time. It was "ATTITUD" that was the highlight of the night with Andrew Wilson jumping into the crowd and running around the venue like a madman.

Tonight was an absolute joy, and you couldn’t help but leave with a huge smile on your face. Die! Die! Die! are perhaps one of the most underrated and hard working bands in the world and seeing them playing in such an intimate venue, I truly consider myself lucky. It won’t be long before the band start playing larger venues and gain the recognition they deserve.
