What a rare opportunity; to see Calvin Harris play a DJ set in one of Sydney’s most intimate club settings. Why would anybody not jump at this opportunity? The place was packed and the vibe was completely pure, and despite half of Sydney’s cops being present, the mood continued at a steady level of buzz throughout all the supporting DJs and MCs. It was good, clean fun, and the music was bliss.

Let’s face it: not many people go to a gig to see the support acts, unless they have a shifty hidden agenda. This gig was no exception, and I’m not too sure that these particular support acts did themselves any justice by running overtime into Calvin Harris’ set, however the vibe was upheld no matter. Apart from the desecrated heavy drop that was used every two minutes, the beats and technique of these DJs were immaculate. Kudos.

Calvin Harris played a literally speechless gig. I think it got to his last song before he said anything at all to the crowd – I was a little disappointed at this. His lack of smiles and energy were also fairly disappointing, but his set provided enough energy to keep big smiles on the faces of every person there. I’m not sure if it was a lack of his own energy, or just that he was concentrating, but trying to get a ‘smiling photo’ of him proved to be next to impossible.

Calvin’s set list included tracks like "You Used to Hold Me", "All the Girls", "Flashback", and a few tracks he said 'are a work in progress', which sounded incredible... So hopefully we shall be hearing some new stuff from Calvin Harris soon. Everybody was dancing, and I mean everybody, even the security guards. Greenwood was bumpin’ like it never had before, and for a Sunday night it was a great turn-out. The entirety of Greenwood was packed, inside and out.

The thing about gigs of this style of music is that the energy and mood can die quickly and quite suddenly, unless a constant caliber of music is upheld the whole way through, and this is a particularly challenging feat: it takes a lot of energy and input, which more often than not fizzles out after the first few ten-minute tracks. I was surprised that this did not happen at this gig - Calvin’s lack of smiles and words proved to not have such a negative effect. All in all, the gig was incredible. I was thinking and dreaming about it for the entire day following... If you have a chance to see Calvin Harris live, do it. He’s something special.
