Behind Crimson Eyes + The Mission in Motion + Guns for Glory + Envy Parade + Aventine Hill - Manning Bar, Sydney University (15.11.08)

Having just finished recording their debut EP, Sydney’s Aventine Hill opened the night with their brutal mix of heavy metal and progressive rock, immediately winning the crowd over. The only thing which disappointed me was that this band deserved a much larger audience.

Next up was Sydney band Envy Parade, hitting the stage with their highly defined Rock sound and captivating melodies, playing favourites such as ‘Lullabies and awkward lies’ and ‘The Perfect Pair’. Their energy and passion was felt throughout the whole set and no one in the crowd was left disappointed.

Having signed a deal with a US Label, Guns For Glory received a warm welcome. Playing their branch of rock and pop, they managed to entertain a minority, however their generic sounds and poor performance left punters displeased.

One thing is certain, Sydney’s The Mission In Motion are going to be the next big thing. Having recently finished touring their latest EP ‘A Curse, A Calling’ they entered ready to party. The five piece played crowd favourites such as ‘Don’t You Just Love Theatre’ and ‘The News’ getting everyone moving on their feet. Their performance was the best of the night, captivating the audience with their amazing stage presence and finishing their set off with ‘We Take This To The Night’.

Having supported heavy weight acts such as Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet for my Valentine this past year, Behind Crimson Eyes are making their mark in the music industry. Getting rid of their ‘Emo’ tag and changing musical direction to enter the mainstream market, they blend heavy rock with pop to create a distinctive sound. They opened the set with ‘Shakedown’ and played hits from the Pavour Nocturnus EP that were instant sing a longs and crowd pleasers. Showing off their new single ‘Addicted’ put the crowd into a frenzy. No doubt they will be back soon.
