After hearing only a little of Aquabats music, I was interested to see how this band who claim to be superheroes saving the world, actually sounded live. Coming on stage in tight blue lycra bodysuits, their energy was spread throughout the roundhouse as the all ages crowd filed through the front doors.
The big screen set up as a backdrop added comedy to their show, playing movies throughout, including nude women on screen, and in between songs the token 'Aquabats' logo. The band played a mix of songs from their four albums, and a new song, which they claimed to be the 'worst song of the new album'. So confident on how good their next album is, that they played the worst song. I felt like I was actually watching a cartoon show during this gig... not sure if I actually liked that or not, but the best was yet to come.
Reel Big Fish were a hell of a lot of fun. I'm not usually one for ska music, but this is one damn entertaining band. They put on a real show: costumes, jokes, jumping and dancing all over the stage, crowd involvement, and of course great music.
They opened with track "Sell Out" and the set also included tracks such as "I Want Your Girlfriend To Be My Girlfriend Too", "Kiss Me Deadly" & "Everything Sucks". A highlight was their excellent version of "Take On Me".
A very sweaty crowd leaving the venue = a good night!
