Skipping Girl Vinegar The AU Review The Old Museum

Brisbane's Old Museum was a warm refuge for the sit down crowd attending Skipping Girl Vinegar's second album Keep Calm, Carry the Monkey launch tour.

The jet-lagged, ash cloud conquering Colleen Hixenbaugh seemed pleased with the laid back crowd, having no planned set and minus one half of Colleen and Paul. An intimate environment was created as Colleen chatted about her partner (Ron Sexsmith) and described her dream's through her lyrics.

Brisbane local's Charlie Mayfair bloomed on stage; they read the crowd well and played without so much as a hiccup. Not without trying the mood was set and was not budging, so the five-piece performed a polished jam for themselves, whimsically celebrating the release of their new single 'Tell Her'. I could have gone home now and been completely satisfied but I stuck around for the main act Skipping Girl Vinegar.

If that 'mood' I keep speaking of wasn't already there the visually enticing stage set-up and pre-recorded chirping birds and wind playing five minutes before Skipping Girl Vinegar appeared on stage, would have got me there. With fairy lights galore and some very nice cardboard cut-out birds, a 'friendly' band was what I was expecting and a friendly band is what I got.

On tour to support the launch of their second album Keep Calm, Carry the Monkey the band seemed enthusiastic enough and again, the crowd was treated to some musicians who had their craft fine-tuned.
