Mono, the post-rock extraordinaires from Japan, are the masters of their genre. Coming on stage to a background of strings and piano, the quartet take their places rather unassumingly to start with the opening track from latest release Hymn To The Immortal Wind "Ashes in the Snow". The song is a brilliant way to introduce the band; a slow, almost classical composure of tremolo picking, glockenspiel, and cymbals, before coming to a cacophonical crescendo that one could think is noise rock perfection. At least until the band blaze through the set to the ending one-two punch of the closers of the respective last two albums; "Moonlight" from 2006's You Are There and once again drawing from 2009's Hymn To The Immortal Wind for "Everlasting Light". It's beautiful, man.
