To help celebrate release of their debut record, All Through Winter, Georgia Fair played an exclusive industry showcase last night to a packed out Oxford Art Factory Gallery Bar. An early highlight of the seven track set was "Remember Me", a high energy, polished number. The soft ballad "Time" showed the bands depth as songwriters and instrumentalists, as well as the variety of their craft. "Blind" was an epic builder. New track "Gloria" which was as good as anything U2 has written (yes, this is a compliment), and they ended with "Simple Man", the sort of track that left everyone saying 'damn, that was a fine set'.
"The best is yet to come" is a lyric of one of the songs ("Where You Been") they played on the night, and I have a feeling this sentiment is pretty on the money. Of the new album the band had this to say: "...it's taken us a while to get this album out... but we're really happy with it... and now we're ready to hit the ground running and play as many shows as we can". Could 2012 be the year of the Fair? Following in the success of bands like Boy & Bear (who arent far removed, though there's less banjo here), I would put some good money on it. All Through Winter is in stores now. - Larry Heath
