The kids that eat hardcore for breakfast and live for a breakdown, that's the crowd that filled the Masonic Hall in Blacktown for this very inconvenient location for Sydney fans. Why Blacktown was chosen for this international gig, and not somewhere like the Annandale or even Bald Faced Stag, I'll never know. But anyway, it was all about the music, and the music was ripping.
Sienna Skies took to the floor (no stage) to a very eager all ages crowd. They were ready to exert all energy and vocal abilities, and they did. Sienna played a tight set, including tracks 'Heartquake!' and 'Daylight Through the Nightlife' from their album Truest of Colours, as well as slipping in a new track, while mentioning they will be recording a new album after this tour. Good news for SS fans.
Hand of Mercy. What an incredibly consistently great band. Never ones to disappoint, without a doubt one of Sydneys best hardcore bands around. The crowd participation was upped again for HOM, the microphone getting thrown to the punters numerous times. Surprisingly, all the kids knew every word and once Scott (vocals) realised this, he threw to the crowd even more. The kids were digging being on the floor singing and going nuts to HOM. An almost flawless set other than their drummer stuffing up crowd favourite 'GTFO', not once, not twice, but three times, so they gave up and played 'Mr Nasty Time' instead, good, but the punters were a bit disappointed at that stage.
The mosh pit really opened up during For The Fallen Dreams, more mature people stayed to the edges away from the action, but the fueled up teenagers took part in a mosh that spanned the length of the hall for most of FTFD set. Even with short sets from all bands tonight, it was well worth the drive to Blacktown, but please, promotors reading, never again!
