Theatre Review: Those Who Fall In Love Like Anchors Dropped Upon the Ocean Floor - The Blue Room Theatre, Perth (Performances through 29 November)

Over the course of his burgeoning career, Finegan Krukemeyer, still only 33, has been commissioned and written 70 works, across 5 continents and multiple languages. With many of those works designed to be watched and enjoyed by children. His latest production (this time for adults), the wonderfully and loquaciously titled Those Who Fall in Love Like Anchors Dropped Upon the Ocean Floor, last week celebrated it’s world premiere at Perth’s Blue Room Theatre.

Live Review: Thelma Plum + Angus Dawson - Amplifier Bar, Perth (15.11.14)

Thelma Plum reminds me a lot of Emma Louise, that same gentle shy awkwardness on stage, but utterly entrancing when she lets those vocals loose, with songs that foster adoration. Thelma played the Amplifier Bar last Saturday night as part of her Monsters tour and totally wooed the Perth crowd.

Line up for 2015 Perth International Arts Festival announced

Last week the line-up for the 63rd Perth International Arts Festival was released to the world. It will be the final year in charge for Artistic Director Jonathan Holloway and he certainly seems to determined to leave on a high; with a staggeringly diverse and exciting cultural feast of theatre, music, visual arts, literature and movies.

Festival Review: WAM Festival Saturday Spectacular + Block Party - Perth (08.11.14)

Back in the first half of the year, I thought WAM did a pretty crazy thing with the State Of The Art Festival that hosted dozens of local singers and bands and scattered them around the Perth Cultural Centre. Last Saturday they outdid themselves once again, extending their reach beyond the Perth Cultural Centre and transforming Northbridge into a communal music fest. Centred around a carpark, the event lived up to its title of the Saturday Spectacular; gear up for the home-grown warm and fuzzies.

This year's event was held across seven venues around the Northbridge area of Perth and all were free of charge. Here are some highlights of the performances captured by our photographer Johnny Au.

Live Review and Photo Gallery: WAM Festival Opening Night Party ft. Tired Lion + Pat Chow - The Bakery, Perth (06.11.14)

The annual WAM Festival kicked off in Perth on Thursday night with the Opening Night Party at The Bakery - one of Perth's finest bespoke venues, built with shipping containers and delivering great vibes and some excellent sound. Unfortunately, with the venue set to close, this may be the only time I get to experience its splendour. But not a bad way to do so, as we caught three WAM Award nominated bands showing off their excellent sounds to a packed room.

Live Review: The Lucky Numbers + Karl S Williams + 19-Twenty - Mojos Bar (05.11.14)

On Wednesday night, four bands playing this weekend’s Blues at Bridgetown were enlisted to play a mid-week gig at Mojos Bar in Fremantle. Part warm-up gig and part chance to show those who didn’t have festival tickets what they were going to be missing out on. Unfortunately I had to leave before the final band of the night, but I saw enough to know that I’m just a little bit jealous of all those heading down to Bridgetown this weekend.

Live Review: Rodriguez + Archie Roach + Little May + Fox Cat Rabbit - King's Park, Perth (06.11.14)

Thursday night saw the legendary singer-songwriter Rodriguez play the first of three sold-out shows in Perth’s picturesque Kings Park, and his first show in Perth since 1981. Joining Rodriguez on the bill was a host of Australian talent, including Archie Roach, Little May and Perth’s own Fox Cat Rabbit.

Live Review: The Rolling Stones - Perth Arena (29.10.14)

With almost twenty years since their last Perth show, and 7 months since the postponement of their Australian tour in the wake of the sudden death of L’Wren Scott, The Rolling Stones showed on Wednesday night that not only do good things come to those who wait, and that they were more than worth the wait.

The Rolling Stones at Perth Arena

Playing their first show in Perth since 1995, The Rolling Stones rocked out Perth Arena with an awesome show. Our man Stuart Sevastos was there to capture the action from the night.

Theatre Review: Overexposed - State Theatre Centre of WA (Performances until November 1st)

Overexposed the latest work from director-performer Danielle Micich and writer Suzie Miller is a timely piece and a thought-provoking one.
