Papa vs Pretty + The Vasco Era - Coolangatta Hotel (29.10.11)

Damn it Gold Coast.
You've let me down again.

Two amazing Aussie bands are co-headlining a must see tour around this fair country of ours and where are you all? Definitely not out supporting the local music industry that's for sure.

Saturday night saw The Vasco Era and Papa vs Pretty stopping off at Cooly Pub for a bit of music and mayhem, playing to a small, but fun and appreciative crowd.

Melbourne's The Vasco Era and Sydney band Papa vs Pretty are travelling far and wide, co-headlining on a tour which celebrates the mid year release of PvP's United In Isolation and VE's recent musical offering Child Bearing Hips.

The Vasco Era hit the stage first, and despite a few technical difficulties dealt with with charm and good humour, the boys managed to entrance and entertain , laying down a laid back but solid set of musical goodness.

Three piece outfit Papa vs Pretty from the first chords are hard and heavy, but polished and the epitome of professionalism. These guys are simply just very, bloody good.

Solid riffs, amazing harmonies and a strong collection of songs, Papa vs Pretty are something special. Their second song was "One of the Animals", definitely one of my favs - a song which has received deservedly high rotation on the J's.

Despite the cries of a charming girl at the front to show her their tits, the boys kept on their clothes, kept the chit chat to a minimum and just presented a solid, tight display of musical prowess. I was expecting a good show from these boys and they didn't diappoint.

It was a night of good live music which deserved a far greater crowd than what turned out.
And the pink sparkly drum kit was a very nice touch.
