PASSOUT : THE ART OF FALLING DOWN DRUNK

Passout is taking over Backroom on Thursday 13th September, staging a night of LIVE fashion installations of passed-out models (hot), and live photo shoots, as well as real photographs of passed out party goers from a selection of fine venues.

If you’re a phototography enthusiast bring along your gear, you’ll have the chance to shoot highly stylized male and female models, passed out around the venue in a myriad of ways – from head down the toilet to sprawled out on the astro turf. Feel free to draw on the willing bodies with lipstick, feed them more booze or pose with props, the night is what you make it!

OBJECT: AUSTRALIAN DESIGN CENTRE PRESENTS “LIVING TREASURE: MASTERS OF AUSTRALIAN CRAFT EXHIBITION”

Nick Mount brings his brilliant exhibition “Glass” to the main gallery space from 8th September 2012. A highly accomplished glass artist, Nick has been at the forefront of innovation in the industry since the 1970s.

The master himself was awarded the “Object’s seventh Living Treasure” prize in the Masters of Australian Craft series. His new series titles “The Fabric of Work” symbolizes the central themes and aesthetics of his life’s work, explaining “ the Scent Bottles, Plumb Bobs, Bubbles and Still Life compositions explain an evolution that weaves a ‘yarn’ into a simple ‘fabric’, supporting my belief in the importance of family, community and hand work”.

There will be a special “In Conversation With” event on Saturday 8th September at 11am in the Object Gallery where Nick will discuss his inspiration and practice.

HOLYWOOD HOT SHOTS COMPETITION

Jameson Irish Whiskey is giving budding film makers the chance to win $5,000 in their Hollywood Hot Short competition – a short film competition in conjunction with the 2012 Australian Liquor Industry Awards.
All you have to do is re-create a 60 second video of your favorite Hollywood film scene. Entrants can submit their work on DVD or USB via mail to PO Box 55, Glebe NSW 2037. Entries close Friday 28th September, 2012.

FEARLESS AT CARRIAGE WORKS

Carriage Works and Milk Crate Theatre are bringing “Fearless” to Sydney Siders this September. A powerful and emotionally charged new work that goes beyond traditional models of theatre making to produce theatre that inspires change.

Milk Crate Theatre works with performers who have experienced homelessness and/or social marginalization. The company has a strong reputation for promoting creative individuals and passionate story tellers, enabling the viewers to see the world through different eyes.

Milk Crate Theatre Director Mirra Todd, says of the production: ‘Fearless is at its heart a story of our intrinsic humanity, of our deepest and most primal selves; sometimes lost, sometimes yearning, but always striving to understand our place in a fractured world.’



This eye opening performance will premier on 13th September and run till 22nd September, so head along to support a worthy and inspiring cause.

ARTGROUPIE 2012
AN EXHIBITION OF VISUAL ART 
BY MUSIC MAKERS

Presented by Groovescooter Records, da dAdA and Eastside Radio 89.7, ArtGroupie is an impressive collective art exhibition featuring local musicians, producers, Djs and vocalists who have a talent for the visual arts.

The 3rd instillation of this popular exhibition is set to feature new paintings, drawings, photography and video work, alongside a newly added second room full of music photography by former NME contributor Bleddyn Butcher. The man will be exhibiting his portraits of Nick Cave, Roland S Howard and Dave Graney, plus many more.

The launch party will be in full swing from 6pm on Thursday 6th September at District 01 Gallery, 74-76 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.

JURASSIC LOUNGE STORMS THE AUSTRALIAN MUSEUM

For those of you who missed the launch of Jurassic Lounge’s 4th Season at the Australian Museum this Tuesday, there’s time yet to enjoy a beer and a check out some dino action; pin the bow on the T-Rex, nerf ball gun a herd of stegasauruses, and enjoy some general schmoozing to sweet tunes and quality liquor.

Jurassic Lounge will be devouring the Australian Museum every Tuesday night till October 30th.
