DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR 2012 QUEENSLAND MUSIC AWARDS

Entries for the 2012 Queensland Music Awards have been extended until 13th May. Organisers QMusic have experienced a record number of submissions, especially in genres such as Urban, Electronic, and Heavy Metal, and would like to give more artists the chance to get in on the action.

Awards will take place at the Old Museum in Brisbane on 14th August, 2012.

Voting is now open for the ASTRA Awards which include 95 finalists across 21 categories, including the five Subscribers’ Choice Award categories selected by public vote.

The Astra Awards, which marks its 10th year in 2012, celebrates the diversity of talent on Subscription TV. This year a new category of Favorite Program – International Drama has been introduced and will include the highly successful HBO series’ True Blood and Game of Thrones, and Fox 8’s Falling Skies.

CHANNEL V BUZZ ARTIST OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED

Montreal based Claire Boucher aka Grimes, is the first hand picked artist to feature on Channel V’s new “Buzz Artist” campaign which kicked off on the 1st May. Chosen for her unique blend of futurists pop, infused with electro and psychedelic beats, Grimes will be on heavy rotation, so tune in and see what the lady of loop peddles and otherworldly samples has to offer!

If you’re a WA band, duo, or solo act aged between 12 - 25 then you could be in the running to win over $15,000 worth of prizes and industry experience by entering in the 2012 AMPFEST, WA’s biggest band competition.

TRIPLE J’S UNEARTHED HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION

Triple J is on the hunt for Australia’s hottest high school music act. So if you fancy yourself a songwriter, producer, MC, or you’re in a band simply register an original track at www.triplejunearthed.com, and make sure to include what high school you attend.

The winning applicant will be flown to Triple J’s studio and have their song recorded by Triple J’s own music producers. The song will be placed on high rotation on both Triple J and Triple J unearthed, and they’ll even put on a concert at your high school where you’ll play alongside hip hop act Bliss N Esso.

WAMi OPENING AND CLOSING PARTY LINEUP ANNOUNCED

The WAMi Festival is almost at hand, with over 35 music related events happening between 26 May – 2 June 2012. The performers for the Opening and closing party have just been announced! Set to take the stage for the Opening Party are Tomas Ford, the Chemist’s Ben Witt, psychedelic group MmHmmm, Cow Parade Cow, Sugapuss, Rainy Day Women, and 5 time WAMi Award nominee Felicity Groom. The Wrap up party will showcase the talents of Sonpsilo, The Chemist, favourites Voltaire Twins, and San Cisco.

THE SEED FUND

If you’re a self released artist or fledging music manager thinking about getting some industry training then the Seed Fund Management Workshop is the place to get yourself organised. And its free!

Over 8 years The Seed has developed a strong reputation for training Australia’s up and coming music industry talent. They coordinate annual intensive courses to a select group of 25 participants, and have recently launched a new grant called “Publicise It” which invests $5,000 in publicity campaigns for upcoming releases. There’s also a grant under way for aspiring visual artists.
