BOB LAINE TO RECEIVE ALLAN WATERS BROADCAST LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD<

Radio legend Bob Laine, whose career with CHUM Radio spanned over 45 years, will be honoured with the Allan Waters Broadcast Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday March 23, 2012. Laine’s posthumous induction into the Canadian Broadcast Industry Hall of fame is the result of his outstanding contribution to Canadian radio, both on-air and as Senior Executive of CHUM Radio. The induction ceremony will take place in conjunction with the Canadian Radio Music Awards held in Toronto.

CANADIAN RADIO CONFERENCE RETURNS MARCH 22-24, 2012

The main players in Canadian radio will gather at Radio Interactive 2012. The conference will investigate the future of radio, and hot topics such as Social Radio, the Format Wars and provide an arena for networking.

Indie label Broke Stone Records will be hitting the road with a suitcase full of talented local musicians; among them Caitlin Park, The Maple Trail, Sister Jane, and the Magnetic Heads. The performances will be craftily mixed with live footage VJ-ing, and accompanied by a display of original artwork created as part of BSR’s recording releases (featuring sculpture, photographs from gigs, and cover art) all on display at each of the venues for your pure, unadulterated enjoyment.

FANS DETERMINE THE LIVE MUSIC LINEUP AT HARD ROCK STAGES ACROSS THE WORLD

As of the 25th January 2012 Hard Rock Rising will give fans the opportunity to decide which bands will perform live at Hard Rock Cafes around the world. Over 12,000 bands have signed up for the challenge, allowing fans to vote by downloading free songs from the bands of their choice at local Hard Rock facebook page. Artists who receive top votes will perform live and be judged by a panel of executives, who will choose a winner from each location. Local winners will compete with 86 international bands, with the ultimate winner selected and flown to London to play “Hard Rock Calling 2012” alongside Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and additional headlining performers. Those who secure second and third place will receive $5,000 and $2,500 respectively, in ReverbNation PROMOTE IT credits, software which facilitates effective Facebook advertising strategies for musician and promoters.

LAUGHING OUTLAW RECORDS SHOWCASE

Laughing Outlaw records are showcasing their new talent on 5th February at the Annandale Hotel.

Kicking off at 3pm the set will include performances from FBI independent artist of the week Edward Deer, Blue Mountains resident Charlie Horse, the psychedelic music of Melbourne’s Wilding, singer-songwriter James Thomson, and Jamie Hutchings.

SWEDEN’S “REFUSED” TO PLAY COACHELLA AND WAY OUT WEST FESTIVAL

Having broken up over 14 years ago, Refused have reunited for a number of performances including Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on 13th and 20th April, and Way Out West Festival in Sweden on 9-11th August.

Citing internal bickering as the reason for their split, after a decade apart the band have decide to give their seminal album “The Shape of Punk To Come” a proper show and perform it like it was intended, without the tension that prevalent in the band at the time of its original release.

RIOT ACT RELEASES AND TOURS

Riot Act have recently added “Fear Factory” to their catalogue, and are ready to kick off 2012 with an array of album releases and tours. Their biggest announcement is Amon Amarth’s “Surtur Rising Tour” kicking off in Brisbane on the 13th April and, followed by Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth. Meshuggah are back in the studio, Barren Earth’s “The Devil’s Resolve” is due for release on 12th March, Unearth introduce Nick Pierce as their new drummer, Inverlock sign to Relapse, OSI and Before the Dawn announce new album, and Shai Hulu are currently working on their new album

STEVE SMYTH RELEASE

The first act to be signed to Shock Records’ new imprint “Permanent Records”, Smyth’s debut album “Release” was released on January 27th 2012. Described as “wistful and romantic” Australian alt-country/folk, Smyth has been crafting his art since his days in London, which saw him touring with the likes of Sean Lennon, Mark Ronson, Ben Harper, and Avi Buffalo.

OVERSEAS SIGNING - HALESTORM SIGNS TO ROADRUNNER RECORDS

Roadrunner records have signed Pennsylvanian-based rock group Halestorm, and announce the release of their new album “The Strange Case Of….”
The new album will be available in physical format as well as digital download on 13th April 2012.

Kylie Minogue is set to feature as a “special guest” in this year’s Mardi Gras Parade on behalf of Destination NSW and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

UNFD – SIGNS BURIED IN VERONA

UNFD have signed Sydney metal-core band Buried in Verona, and are set to release their 3rd album “Notorious” in June 2012.

Buried in Verona caught the attention of UNFD when they supported The Amity Affliction on their short “Fuck The Reaper” tour. The band have recently relocated to Sweden, and will begin writing for their upcoming record with producer Frederick Nordstrom, best known for his work with Opeth, Bring Me the Horizon, and Soilwork.

MUSIC MANAGERS FORUM

The MMF is the founding member of the Global IMMF who represent artists and music managers. These artists are the account for over 95% of economic activity in the global music and entertainment industry.

Celebrating its 15th year, the Music Managers Forum Australia are hosting their Annual St Kilda Festival (7-11th February 2012) Events and Forums. The events offer industry knowledge and advice from the big players, and attendance is free (though booking is necessary via trybooking.com). In addition, all Forum and Masterclass content will be made available online in ‘real time’, allowing subscribers to type questions and have them answered directly.
