LOLLA REMIX THROWDOWN 2012! LOLLAPALOOZA ANNUAL REMIX COMPETITION
The famed Lolla Remix Throwdown is back for 2012! Between May 23rd and June 24th, artists can enter by submitting their remix of "California" by Lollapalooza artist Delta Spirit. Participants will have the chance to win a spot on Perry’s Stage at Lollapalooza, and prizes from Red Bull, Ableton, and Dubspot.

SASKWATCH SIGN TO NORTHSIDE RECORDS

Melbournian group Saskwatch have inked a record deal with Northside Records. It’s no surprise really, as Northside Records is Melbourne’s premium source for all things soul related, and Saskwatch are the cities hottest new soul act.

The first product to come from this new partnership will be the music video for Saskwatch’s new single, followed by a full length album in mid-August.

TAYLOR SWIFT HONORED AS “WOMAN OF THE YEAR” AT 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS

Taylor Swift has walked away with the “Woman of the Year” Award at this year’s Music Billboards Awards. Swift is the only woman in music history to release three #1 consecutive albums, each selling over 5 million copies. Her most recent album “Speak Now” charted an unprecedented 11 songs from one album in a week on the Billboard Hot 100.

2012 WAMi FESTIVAL – ADDITONAL CONFERENCE SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED

WAMi Festival have just announced the additional of several key speakers to their already spectacular line up. Annaliesse Monaro (Australian Council for the Arts), Dom, Alessio (Triple J’s Home & Hosed), and Leigh Treweek (themusic.com) will be joining the panel of speakers attending the 2012 WAMi Music Business Conference, taking place 1st June at the Bakery, WA.

TRIPLE J SPREADS MUSIC LOVE THROUGH ONLINE PLATFORM

Triple J has launched into online jukebox networks Spotify and Rdio in a bid to expand you music knowledge and experience via the online music platform.

On Rdio listeners can access presenter playlists directly, hear the latest tracks on the Hitlist and listen to previous Hottest 100 playlists. What’s more, the Triple J app on Spotify lets listeners hear feature albums, the newest tracks on the Hitlist, get tracks from past Hottest 100 winners, and read current Music News.

GURRUMUL TO APPEAR AT QUEEN’S JUBILEE CONCERT

Gurrumul Yanupingu will be joining a list of high profile artists such as Elton John to perform at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert on 4th June 2012.

Gurrumul will be joining other artists to perform “Sing”, the Diamond Jubilee Song written by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow.

Barlow travelled around the Commonwealth to work with a variety of musicians, including Gurrumul, and produce the track which with debut on BBC Radio 2 this week.

The concert will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC One HD and on BBC Radio 2 in the UK.

JOHN BUTTLER SETTLES WITH CREATORS OF DANNON OIKOS YOGHURT

John Butler and advertising agence Poptent, the creator of the Dannon Oikos yoghurt advertisement, have come to a settlement regarding the use of a song in the advertisement which bore a significant similarity to Butler’s work “Zebra”. The advertisement will no longer contain the original track.

ROSIE BEATON AND STEPH HUGHES JOIN TRIPLE J UNEARTHED AS NEW HOSTS

Triple J’s beloved presenter Rosie Beaton is back with a new show on Triple J Unearthed. She’ll be taking requests from callers for their favourite Unearthed tracks via Unearhted Facebook an twitter. She’ll also be chatting with the artists and providing a platform for them to tell their story. Rosie’s show takes off on 22nd May and you’ll be able to catch her on the airwaves from 4-6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Former Home & Hosed presented Steph Hughes has also returned to the J, and is joining Triple J Unearthed. She’ll be introducing listeners to new songs added to Unearthed from 28th May 8-9pm.

BRITISH INDIA SIGN TO MUSHROOM

Melbourne’s British India have signed a recording and publishing deal with Liberation and Mushroom Music Publishing respectively.

British India’s debut album “Guillotine” broke into the indie scene in 2007 and won the AIR Award for Best New Independent Artist in the same year. Their third album “Avalanche”, released in 2010, received a top 10 Aria Chart debut, giving an indication of just how far the band have come in such a short time.

PERFORMERS / PRESENTERS FOR 2012 APRA MUSIC AWARDS

Organisers of the 2012 APRA MUSIC AWARDS, which take place on Monday 28th May, have announce that the evening will be hosted by Jonathan Biggins and Missy Higgins, and will feature performance by Tine Arena, Tex Perkins, Kate Miller-Heidke, Bob Evans, Kram, Sophia Brous, Russell Morris, PVT and Bertie Blackman and special guest presenters Yusuf Islam, Felicity Urquhart and Philip Mortlock.

MEDIA RELEASE: REPRESSED RECORDS ON THE MOVE AND TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!!

Repressed Records is relocating to 413 King Street Newtown and are set to reopen the new shop on 1st June. To celebrate their 10th birthday Repressed are hosting two nights of music at The Red Rattler on 6th and 7th July, including local and interstate acts. Line up to be announced next week!

THE JAMES BROWN MUSIC VIDEO CHALLENGE

The Genero James Brown competition offers applicants the chance to make the official music video for 4 popular James Brown Hits including Sex Machine, It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World, Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag, and Try Me (Live at the Apollo).

The major prize will be an opportunity to work on a project in a key office around the Saatchi & Saatchi global network. Universal Music are also hunting for official music videos for each of the track, which each song winner receiving $1000.

TRIPLE J AND NIMAs JOIN TO UNEARTH NEW INDIGENOUS

Unsigned Indigenous acts are being asked to upload their tracks to triplejunearthed.com, with one lucky winner, selected by the Triple J team, being given the opportunity to perform at the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAS) in Darwin on 11th August.

The Medics and Yabu Band are the first round of bands to be announced for this year’s NIMAs concert, and joining them is Rrawun Maymuru the NIMA New Talent of the Year 2011 winner, who will perform with his band East Journey. The remainder of the line up will be announced in late June.
