ED HALE SIGNS PUBLISHING DEAL WITH FIELDHOUSE MUSIC/BMG

Ed Hale of Ed Hale and the Transcendence has just signed a publishing deal with Fieldhouse Music/BMG, a company based around finding and promoting new talent for Film and TV soundtracks.

Hale has also struck gold with TouchTunes Interactive Networks, the leaders in in-venue entertainment networking who specialize in streaming music through jukeboxes and piped-in digital feeds. They’ve picked up 8 of the band’s albums, which will now be streamed throughout 52,000 bars, restaurants, and retail locations throughout North America.

MICHAEL CHUGG RECEIVES MUSEXPO'S INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD

Australian music promoter Michael Chugg has been honoured with the Musexpo International Music Person of the Year Award, presented in Los Angeles, to recognise his ongoing contribution to the world wide music industry.
Chugg Entertainment is showing no signs of slowing down with the Prince tour kicking off this week, and Radiohead along with many more to follow later in the year.

BIGSOUND 2012 Live Application Deadline Extended

Artist applications for BigSound Live have now been extended till Friday 11th May.

The largest music conference in the southern hemisphere is set to feature keynote speakers Ben Lee, EMI Chairman Mark Poston, and David Birdie.

SOUND SUMMIT CALL FOR 2012 APPLICATIONS

The Sound Summit festival of independent and innovative music is back again in 2012 over 27-30th September long weekend in Newcastle, NSW.

Sound Summit continues to provide an arena for musicians, producers, composers, labels, promoters, and industry personnel to discuss ideas and trends influencing the modern musical landscape. The festival features a varied schedule of showcases, performances, panels, workshops, Q&A’s, and debates.

The organisers are now calling out for musicians, producers, artists filmmakers, authors, and journalists whose work relates to independent, original, and emerging music.

REDBULL BEDROOM JAM – STONEFIELD TO HEADLINE BEDROOM TO BACKYARD JAM

Melbourne’s psych-rock group Stonefield will be headlining the Red Bull Bedroom Jam this July. Go Mason Go have taken out the fourth round securing a spot for themselves in the Backyard Jam final this July. They’ll be competing against webcast winners Lets Not Pretend, Masketta Fall, Your Ticket Home. The fifth spot is still up for grabs, and the band to claim the spot will be battling it out on the BUZZ chart to see which band’s backyard will become the site for the Bedroom to Backyard Jam session.

ISC GRAND PRIZE AWARDED TO KIMBRA FOR “CAMEO LOVER”

The International Songwriting Competition, the world’s most popular songwriting event, has announced the winners for 2011. Over 16,000 songs were submitted, and our local talent has walked away with five 1st place wins, five 2nd place wins, and four 3rd place wins.

Taking home the ISC’s highest honor is Kimbra, who recently exploded onto the charts as a feature artist in Gotye’s “Somebody That I Use To Know”, gaining her international recognition. Her first album “Vows” was released in 2011 and reached #4 in the ARIA Charts.

WAMi FREE EVENTS ANNOUNCED

The WAMi Festival is set to kick off on the 26th May and the organisers have just announced a host of free music sessions in the city.

The Northbridge Piazza Series is on from 12-1:30pm daily 28th May – 1st June at the Northbridge Piazza. Lunchtime performances will feature the likes of Marksman, The Empty Cup, Mostark, Diger Rokwell, Rae, Joshua Charles, Wisdom 2th, Andre Fuzz, Naik, Mei Saraswati and YLEM.

The Murray and Hay Street Malls will feature acoustic musicians performing daily from 12-2pm on 28th May – 1st June. The musicians set to entertain the lunchtime crowds will include Julius Lutero, Benny Mayhem, Tomas Ford, Blue Lucy, James Rogers (Harlequin League), Tim Gordon (The Tumblers), Joel Barker, Jennifer Renee, Cody.

The Bird Sundowner Series at The Bird in Northbridge will bring the after hours entertainment, focusing on local solo acoustic and electronic projects, daily from 5:30-6:30pm on 28th May – 1st June. Unwind to sound of Leah Miche Suite, The Whistling Dogs, Kizzy, Jacob Diamond, Adem K and Kevin Gillam, Death and a Cure, Moustache, Elk Bell, Anton Franc, and Simone and Girlfunkle.

The Central Music Industry Training Open Day will be happening at the Leederville Campus on 31st May from 12-6pm. Tours will commence from 12-2pm, allowing an insight into the live venue, rehearsal rooms, recording studios, while providing information about enrolment opportunities. A special industry panel Onward and Outward - Forging a Future in the Music Industry will follow on from the tours, and feature speakers Millie Millgate (Sounds Australia), Mark Dodds (Inertia), Adam Lewis (Planetary Group) and John Mullen (Dew Process). JOEL MADDEN ADDS HIS VOICE TO SONG SUMMIT AND SCREEN SUMMIT ANNOUNCED
The Voice coach and Good Charlotte member Joel Madden has just been added to the bill of talented musicians and industry personnel taking part in this year’s Song Summit, the three-day industry conference presented by APRA AMCOS on 26th-28th May 2012 at the Sydney Conventions and Exhibition Centre.

The Song Summit programme also features a dedicated segment focusing on emerging and established screen music writers. A series of in-depth sessions will be lead by Grammy nominated Gary Calamar (music supervisor for True Blood, Dexter, and Six Feet Under) and multi award winning screen composer Burkhard Dallwitz.

WUNDERKIND PARTNERS WITH THE MUSHROOM GROUP

The Mushroom Group have announced their new partnership with the boutique recording company Wunderkind. Wunderkind is set to join Mushrooms collective of labels: Liberation Music, Illusive Sounds, Ivy League, I Oh You, and Liberator Music.

The first lot of artists to be releases under this joint venture will be Melbourne’s Owl Eyes and Stonefield.

VAN SHE + NIKON ANNOUNCE THE ‘IDEA OF HAPPINESS’ VIDEO COMPETITION

Van She and Nikon are teaming up to give one budding music video director a chance to showcase their talent with the “Idea of Happiness” Video Competition.

The idea for the video has to use the concept of the song’s name “Idea of Happiness”, and all ideas must be submitted in one of three formats – moodboard, teaser video or treatment.

If your concept is chosen you’ll have to opportunity to work with the brand new Nikon 1 camera system and an established international Video Director.

100 SONGS ANNOUNCES BANDS AND PRODUCERS FOR 2012

QUT’s Independent Music Project has announced the winning artists who’ll be participating in this year’s 100 Songs. The nine producers scheduled to works with the artists have also been announced, they’ll be on call for 100 hours, working on 100 tracks at the Gasworks studios from 20th – 25th May, 2012.

The band’s selected include Big Strong Brute, Tape/Off, We All Want To, Halfway, Fushia, Drawn From Bees, Oceanics, BMXRay, Sean Sennett, Rick Fights, working with popular producers Magoo (Powderfinger, Regurgitator, Pangea, Custard), Daniel Denholm (The Whitlams, Midnight Oil, Wendy Matthews), Adam Quaife (Lime Spiders, Masters Apprentices, Divinyls) and Mike Howlett (Martha & The Muffins, Flock of Seagulls, OMD).

BRETT GUREWITZ RECEIVES INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD

Brett Gurewitz, founder of independent label Epitaph and songwriter for Bad Religion has received the National Association of Recording Merchandiser’s Independent Spirit Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles earlier this week.

Gurewitz spoke of the nomination "I'm flattered and honoured to receive NARM's Independent Spirit Award and to be recognized for my work in the independent music business community that means so much to me.

Epitaph records was established in 1987, and took off selling over 1 million records a year, gaining recognition and success in 1994 with the release of The Offspring’s “Smash”, and later Rancid’s “Out Comes the Wolves” which was certified platinum, not to mention the success of Pennywise and NOFX.
