The 1975's Matthew Healy responds to Bastille's Dan Smith: "I wouldn't be surprised if they headlined festivals first!"

In an interview with Gigwise published yesterday, Bastille’s frontman Dan Smith was quoted as saying “I reckon The 1975 will be headlining festivals in a year or so”. In our interview with The 1975 today in Sydney, we asked Matthew Healy he they thought about the opinion.

Calling the bands “mates” and humbled by the suggestion, Healy went on to say: “That’s very nice of them… but probably quite rich coming from them, because I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it first. They’re massive. They’re huge. Those songs on the radio have been fucking everywhere.”

George Daniel added, “They’ve definitely had more singles off their album than we’ve had on ours.”

Healy continued, “But they’re great, and they’re lovely… and it’s very nice of them…. they’re mates of ours, when you’re in festival season, you meet these people so many times. They’re your peers. You find a certain… salvation in the backstage area. You’re all in the same situation. It’s a very exclusive group of people doing a very exclusive thing. You all congregate once a week cathartically talking about it all…”

Watch the full chat, where the band talk Splendour in the Grass, fandom, life on the road and more in a feature later in the week! The band also reveal this won’t be their last visit to Australia in 2014…
