Pink Martini announces new album A Retrospective to be released in November

Pink Martini have announced they will release a 21-track compilation album, A Retrospective, on 11th November through Inertia Recordings.

Featuring eight previously unreleased tracks as well as alternative recordings of some of the band’s most beloved songs, A Retrospective also features guest appearances by Japanese superstar Saori Yuki, French treasure Georges Moustaki, American icon Michael Feinstein, famed NYC DJ Johnny Dynell and Oscar-nominated film director Gus Van Sant (making his singing debut).

Pink Martini was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1994 by Harvard graduate and classically trained pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale, with China Forbes (vocals) – a classmate of Lauderdale’s at Harvard – joining the ensemble in 1995. The sound of Pink Martini is best described by Lauderdale himself: “at one moment, you feel like you’re in the middle of a samba parade in Rio de Janeiro, and in the next moment, you’re in a French music hall of the 1930s or a palazzo in Napoli. It’s a bit like an urban musical travelogue.”

Pink Martini’s five previous albums have collectively sold over 2 million copies worldwide. The album booklet features a 48-page booklet of never-before-seen Polaroids taken by Lauderdale, as well as rare postcards and posters from the band’s 16-year history. A deluxe hardbound CD book version of A Retrospective will also be available.
