Noah Taylor & The Sloppy Boys acoustic set at Red Eye Records tonight

Fuse Music and Low Music Club invite all Sydneysiders to see Noah Taylor and the Sloppy Boys play a stripped-back, acoustic set at Red Eye Records tonight.

Leaving Australia for the UK a decade ago, the actor-come-musician, Noah Taylor is better known for his on screen appearances. The Melbourne-raised multi-talent became a household name from films such as Shine, Almost Famous, Tomb Raider, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Red Dog, the list goes on... Taylor is also an accomplished visual artist and musician, keeping regular company with his old pal, Nick Cave.

While acting since 1986, Taylor has consistently dabbled in musical side-projects Honky Tonk Angels, Cardboard Box Man, Flipper & Humphrey and The Thirteens.

Turning his complete attention from film to music in 2011 has seen Taylor release a solo-debut, Live Free Or Die!!! with his Sloppy Boys, Cec Condon (The Mess Hall) and Edward Clayton-Jones (The Wreckery) - and it's a beauty! The record is a quintessentially Australian, post-punk revival revolving around Taylor, who plays the character of the brooding dog in the shadows almost too well.

Combining a marriage of raw rock & roll with gritty punk tinges, hypnotic guitar, swampy drums and deliciously crude and humourous lyrics, Live Free Or Die!!! came about when a recording studio owned by a friend suddenly became available for a few days in 2010.

All six tracks were penned by Noah over a one-week period prior to the recording, and given what might appear to be a haphazard approach to recording and band maintenance, the results are astounding.

Holiday Sidewinder from Bridezilla, who is Noah’s god-daughter, features on the track, ‘Scary’, and the band will be playing the Homebake festival in Sydney (Dec 3), support slots for Grinderman in both Sydney (Dec 1) and Adelaide (Dec 8), as well as their own headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Sealed with a personal Nick-Cave-tick-of-approval and an invitation to tour with Grinderman this free-show is a cancel-all-plans.

Where: Red Eye Records, 143 York Street Sydney
When: Friday December 2nd, 5pm
Cost: Free

“Some of the strangest, funniest, rawest most heart wrenchingly deranged music I have ever heard. The song LIVE FREE OR DIE!! surpasses all understanding-part Bedlamite gibberish, part conspiracy theorist rant, part high opera, it is thrils and chills all the way, ROSE is song of the year no contest. This album takes the "break up" record to a wholly new place-dark, agonised, outraged, moving and very, very funny. A flat out, freaked out masterpiece.”
- Nick Cave, 2011

“A dark, swampy mess of violence and raw energy... this outfit is an infectious incarnation demanding repeat listening.”
- Chris Murray, STACK 2011

"A performance inspired by the heads down, classic Australia rock ethos with a touch of underground punk rock."
- IMC Music
