Matt Corby to support Elbow at their Splendour sideshows

Having spent the first four months of 2011 playing headline shows in the UK and US, including multiple SOLD OUT shows in London and three shows at Austin’s SXSW festival, followed by two months of magical Secret Garden shows around NSW and Victoria, Matt Corby is delighted to be confirmed as the main support for the upcoming SOLD OUT Elbow shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Elbow, one of the UK's most established, longest standing and well respected indie artists, head to Australia later this month and will play two shows at Melbourne's Palace Theatre and one show at Sydney's Enmore theatre. ‘I’m a huge fan of the band and could not believe it when they asked me to join them on the tour. It’s going to be incredible playing at such beautiful venues before a band I have loved for so many years.’ Said Corby.

Whilst Matt may have seemed quiet of late, he has been busier than ever. After an intern from Matt's management company asked fans on Facebook where they would like to see him play, an overwhelming number of responses suggested garden parties. And so Matt's Secret Garden gigs were born; an initiative where fans can nominate themselves to host secret shows in their garden. The shows have been beautiful and fans are delighted to see Matt in such an intimate setting. Shows have been selling out in minutes and Matt now has 7 Secret Garden shows under his belt with South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland next on the agenda.

It would seem the young troubadour is having a dream run, having caught the attention of Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons and then being signed to his label ‘Communion’ in the UK and subsequently recording the ‘Transition To Colour’ EP in London with Ian Grimble (Seasick Steve, The Libertines). He then recorded the classic track ‘By My Side’ with legendary Australian band INXS for their ‘Original Sin’ album, supported Mumford and Sons and played headline shows in the UK & Australia in support of his EP; with both the live show and recorded work receiving critical acclaim.

“ …Corby does no showboating, preferring to sing in the dark and very close. But after he’s gone, there is a strong residue of emotion made possible by what is an intimate collection of songs” BERNARD ZUEL – The Sydney Morning Herald.

Matt has been busy preparing to record his new EP in the next few months with new music expected before the end of the year.
