Chiddy Bang pull out of Groovin' The Moo, Ball Park Music step up to the plate!

Groovin' The Moo announced earlier today that American hip-hop group Chiddy Bang have chosen to pull out of the Australia-wide tour, deciding to instead commit to American media appearances. Fear not though, they've been replaced by all-around good guys Ball Park Music. Here's the full statement by GTM:

"Groovin’ the Moo (GTM) regrets to announce Chiddy Bang will no longer be part of the GTM 2012 National tour. Unfortunately they have chosen to cancel their Australian commitments preferring to focus on new TV and radio promotional opportunities for their upcoming album in the USA.

This decision is very disappointing and totally out of our control. However GTM is very pleased to announce that J Award Unearthed Artist of the Year winners Ball Park Music will be joining the GTM tour.

Dynamos Ball Park Music are masters of the indie-pop-sunny melody and this GTM, we school of fish will be reeled in by their catchiest of hooks. The band, no doubt big fans of Pavement and Weezer, recently had two entries in triple j’s Hottest 100 with the playful ‘It’s Nice to Be Alive’ and ‘All I Want is You’ appearing at #31 and #38 respectively. Their record “Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs” also received nominations for Album of the Year in both triple j’s J Awards and Rolling Stone Awards, and was impressively voted the 10th Best Album of 2011 in triple j’s listener poll.

GTM promoter Stephen Halpin commented on the circumstances today, “To replace an act on the festival at this late stage is very difficult, so we are extremely grateful to have an act of the calibre of Ball Park Music join the tour at such short notice. Yes it’s annoying that Chiddy Bang have chosen to cancel but Ball Park Music are a fantastic live act and deserve all their current success."

Groovin' The Moo also appreciates that some ticketholders purchased tickets to specifically to support Chiddy Bang; refunds will be available from 9AM Monday, 27th February 2012 through 5PM ADST Friday, 2nd March 2012. Though with a killer lineup including 360, Andrew WK, Mutemath, Wavves, Public Enemy, Gold Fields, San Cisco, Kaiser Chiefs and so much more, why would you?

Groovin' The Moo starts on the 5th of May in Bendigo with a sold out show; the other shows are sure to follow! Tickets are available at the Groovin' The Moo website.

Perth Fringe Festival: A roaring success!

Perth's first Fringe Festival has just wrapped up, and is to be considered a great success! With over 900 performers in the city for almost a full month of shows, the festival announced today that average attendance for shows was around 50% capacity. At the larger Fringe Festivals (such as Edinburgh Fringe), the average is slightly higher than 5%.

Festival director Marcus Canning said "We’re thrilled with the results of our first Fringe, because for close to a month, we did just that. We’re also really proud of Perth right now, so many people coming out and jumping into their first full Fringe with such enthusiasm, it’s exciting to think about where we’ll be going in the next few years as the Fringe grows.”

Fringe World is already set to return in 2013, with artist registrations opening sometime in May 2012. Keep an eye on the Fringe World website for further details.
