ABOUT THE COMPILATION, FROM I OH YOU:

When I was sixteen, I was madly in love with a girl from my high school named Emily. She was pretty much the babe of the school and therefore, very far out of my some-what average league. In order to try and make a pass at her without actually having to make eye contact, I carefully and quite strategically slipped a mixtape in the front pocket of her school bag…sadly she did not like any of the songs (turns out she had terrible music taste) and thus my first attempt at finding true love was a failure.

I can confidently say, that this mixtape is nothing like the one I made back then.

The music included in the COMING UP, NOT DOWN compilation was chosen for no other reason other than we think they’re freaking dope! We’ve been blasting these tracks in our backyard and house parties over the last year and we’ve also been thrilled to see each act making their own waves in the Australian music industry and in some cases even overseas.

Whether it be the pop sensibilities of Kite Club, the stunningly intricate vocal arrangements of Oscar & Martin, the dancy disco vibes of Brisbane boys Mitzi or the jangly carefree guitars of Bleeding Knees Club... we hope (and are reasonably confident) that there will be something of interest for everyone.

Finally, I’m not really sure whatever happened to Emily but if someone knows where she is, feel free to tell pass this mixtape on to her and let her know that I have well and truly moved on... kind of.
