Jhene Aiko to perform intimate Soulfest sideshow in Sydney

For a second year, Soulfest is set to bring down a who's who of the soul, R&B, and hip hop industry to Australia and perhaps one of the most exciting, relatively new artists on the line up is the increasingly popular Jhené Aiko. Having come so far in such a short time, with her 2014 debut album Souled Out still making waves in the industry, it makes sense that demand push for Aiko to have her very own headline sideshow in addition to her appearance as part of Soulfest. Sydney is the lucky city to get this, with the opportunity to see Aiko do her thing at the Metro Theatre the perfect opportunity to see why she has been compared to the late, great Aaliyah in a live environment.

The Windy City of Chicago gave precedence to its name today when, after a windy and hot morning that covered many of the stages in dust, a looming storm cell forced organisers to evacuate Grant Park ahead of its arrival. The evacuation lasted less than an hour, during which time everyone exited the park without any reported incidences, re-entered after the storm proved to be non-eventful (at the park at least), and the music picked up where it left off. The schedule was moved forward an hour and the event was granted an hour's extension on their schedule as it was back in 2012. In the end, the extension wouldn't be needed.

Chicago Metallica fans - including a group who were lucky enough to be positioned on stage - were treated to a two hour headlining show at Lollapalooza that, with the exception of "Cyanide" from Death Magnetic, featured songs from their entire pre-1998 cataloge, with a track from all of their seven LPs (to that time) featured, including "Seek & Destroy" off their debut album Kill 'Em All. Two covers were also thrown into the mix. The setlist looked a little something like this:

Sir Paul McCartney made his Lollapalooza debut last night, helping kick off the iconic three day event in Chicago with a massive two hour, 15 minute set that saw the legendary artist delve into his catalogue of Wings and Beatles songs that had the tens of thousands of fans singing along from start to finish. He even had Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes singing along, when she joined the Beatle for a rendition of "Get Back" on both vocals and guitar, taking on a verse for herself with a gusto that we're sure would have contradicted the "pinch me, is this actually happening?" feeling anyone would experience in that situation.
