Channel [V] announces their Top 50 Nominees for Oz Artist 2011

Silverchair, Kisschasy, Evermore, Guy Sebastian, The Veronicas, Delta Goodrem, Anthony Callea and Short Stack. At first glance, it’s a mixed bag of Aussie artists, but in fact, they all have one thing in common. They have each held the title of [V] OZ ARTIST. And in 2011, Channel [V] is looking to add another name to this list of honoured music luminaries, and it’s YOU who decides which artist wins the Award.

Once again, Channel [V] is bestowing music fans nationwide the power to vote for the Australian act they dig the most with the annual [V] OZ ARTIST Award. Celebrating its massive fifteenth year in 2011, the [V] OZ ARTIST Award remains to be a valuable fixture in the music industry as it not only promotes our local music heroes, but the result is based one hundred percent on viewer votes.

The TOP 50 Nominees were revealed today on Channel [V]. And the competition this year is certainly stiff. With a megawatt line up of artists, from stalwarts of the Award such as John Butler Trio, The Living End, The Vines, Gyroscope and Eskimo Joe, to a crop of first-time nominees and up-and-comers including, Gotye, Parkway Drive, The Jezabels, 360 and Boy & Bear, a plethora of genres are covered. Just who will take out the title of Australia’s favourite in 2011? It’s up to you, so start voting now at vmusic.com.au.

For the first time ever, Channel [V] introduced a Wild Card entry to the 2011 TOP 50. With the Top 49 determined by us, it was left to viewers to complete the list by voting for their favourite signed or unsigned Australian artist. Suffice to say, we are creaming our pants to announce that the 2011 Wild Card is New Empire! The rock-pop four piece hail from Sydney and their second album Symmetry is out now, with the boys touring the country throughout October and November. It’ll be interesting to see how they fare up against the rest of the artists.

Another new component this year is that from Friday 21 October Channel [V] will begin eliminating artists with the least amount of votes. Throughout each day we’ll announce which artists are at risk of going and fans will have until 5pm to save them by voting for them at vmusic.com.au. After three weeks of voting, THE TOP 10 will be announced on Saturday 4 November at 11.00am. Only your votes can help your artist win, so it’s time to be heard.

Now, if the pure act of showing some love for your fave artists isn’t enough, we’ve got another incentive for you to vote – free shit! Every vote you make for [V] OZ ARTIST 2011 puts you in the draw to win our major prize: a $6,000 travel voucher! Plus minor prize winners can score rare artist memorabilia like Kimbra’s guitar, a drum skin from Gotye, The Jezabels’ keyboard and 360’s basketball [all autographed, of course], that will have your crew gagging for a trade.

Consider yourself an ultimate fan of your favourite artist? Make sure you register to campaign for them when you cast your vote. Then do whatever you can to get as many people possible voting to help your artist claim the Award. Whether that be via social media, hitting the shops with flyers, getting in the newspaper or something even bigger! The best overall campaigner will win an iPad 2.

After the TOP 10 are decided, Channel [V] will announce the TOP 4 FINALISTS on Saturday 19 November, before the winner of [V] OZ ARTIST 2011 is revealed on Saturday 10 December. Remember, the more times you vote, the more chances you have of winning the $6,000 travel voucher or artist merch. And the closer your favourite artist comes to taking out the Award. It’s a win-win situation, really.

The gents from Silverchair won six years in a row and last year Short Stack took out the Award for the second time. Just who will be left holding the 2011 trophy come 10 December? It’s up to YOU. So what the hell are you waiting for? It’s time for you to be heard. Vote now at vmusic.com.au. It’s the only way to see your favourite Aussie artist take home the goods.
