Byron Bay Bluesfest has done it again, with another brilliant lineup for the festival's 23rd year! Headlining the first announcement is yet another of the 60's greats Peter Noble is so intent of bringing out to Australia (and by god, we thank him for it); Roger Daltrey performing The Who's Tommy in full! Selling over 20 million copies worldwide, the fourth studio album by The Who has been cited as an integral part of rock history for over 40 years, and has been billed as the first rock opera. Hearing this fantastic album live should be a treat.
Illinois-based funk legends Earth Wind & Fire have also been announced, along with Irish punk luminaries The Pogues. Bluesfest staples John Butler Trio are back as well, as well as a repeat performance from the 2011 standout Trombone Shorty. My Morning Jacket are also coming back to Australian shores since their highly lauded Big Day Out shows in 2009.
Prog-rock pioneers Yes and guitarist-supergroup G3 (feat. Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Steve Lukather) are also performing alongside 2010 highlight, the definitive blues guitarist Buddy Guy.
Also on the lineup is the legendary country singer-songwriter Steve Earle, who's also bringing his son Justin Townes Earle along. Justin played in 2010 and wowed audiences then; 2012 should be much the same!
Rounding out the first announcement are Maceo Parker, Brian Setzer's Rockabilliy Riot, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Yann Tiersen, Bettye Lavette, Great Big Sea and The Jayhawks. There's no denying that Bluesfest is possibly the global blues and roots festival; bring on the second lineup!
